Special Air Service
The Special Air Service (SAS) is a special forces unit of the British Army. It was founded as a regiment in 1941 by David Stirling and in 1950, it was reconstituted as a corps. The unit specialises in a number of roles including counter-terrorism, hostage rescue, direct action and covert reconnaissance. Much of the information about the SAS is highly classified, and the unit is not commented on by either the British government or the Ministry of Defence due to the secrecy and sensitivity of its operations. The corps currently consists of the 22 Special Air Service Regiment, the regular component, as well as the 21 Special Air Service Regiment (Artists) (Reserve) and the 23 Special Air Service Regiment (Reserve), which are reserve units, all under the operational command of United Kingdom Special Forces (UKSF). Oerlikon KCB
The KCB is a 30 mm caliber autocannon, developed by Hispano-Suiza as HS.831. When Rheinmetall Air Defence, Oerlikon purchased Hispano's armaments division, the gun became KCB. Development HS.831 is a scaled-up version of the 20 mm Hispano-Suiza HS.820, HS.820 and has much the same general operating principles. It uses the 30x170mm round that was developed for this gun. On ground, the HS.820 was used in combination with the HS.661, a single simple anti-aircraft gun mount, and was also mounted on the AMX-13 DCA (), a self-propelled anti-aircraft weapon for the French Army. In the United Kingdom, BMARC developed A32, a locally operated naval mounting incorporating two HS.831. When the gun was renamed KCB, the A32 became Oerlikon 30 mm twin cannon, GCM-A series. ARA ''Almirante Irízar'' is a large icebreaker of the Argentine Navy. She was ordered from a shipyard in Finland in 1975. A fire broke out in her auxiliary generator compartment in 2007, putting her out of commission until April 2017. Background The ship was named after Julián Irízar. In 1903, when he held the rank of Lieutenant, he commanded the Argentine corvette during a successful mission to rescue the Swedish Antarctic Expedition of Professor Otto Nordenskjöld, after the expedition had been trapped by the Antarctic winter. The SBS can trace its origins back to the Second World War when the Army Special Boat Section was formed in 1940.
