Rahoneen
Rahoneen ("Ráth Eoghainín") is a townland of Ardfert in County Kerry, Ireland. It is notable as the location of an ancient Celtic ringfort; at one time this was known as McKenna's fort, but, after the capture and execution of Roger Casement for treason, sabotage and espionage against the Crown, it became known as Casement's Fort. In the early hours of 21 April 1916, Casement was put ashore at nearby Banna strand from ''U19''. Roger Casement
Roger David Casement ( ga, Ruairí Dáithí Mac Easmainn; 1 September 1864 – 3 August 1916), known as Sir Roger Casement, CMG, between 1911 and 1916, was a diplomat and Irish nationalist executed by the United Kingdom for treason during World War I. He worked for the British Foreign Office as a diplomat, becoming known as a humanitarian activist, and later as a poet and Easter Rising leader. Described as the "father of twentieth-century human rights investigations", he was honoured in 1905 for the Casement Report on the Congo and knighted in 1911 for his important investigations of human rights abuses in the rubber industry in Peru. In Africa as a young man, Casement first worked for commercial interests before joining the British Colonial Service. Ardfert
Ardfert () is a village in County Kerry, Ireland. Historically a religious centre, the economy of the locality is driven by agriculture and its position as a dormitory town, being only from Tralee. The population of the village was 749 at the 2016 census. Origin The village's name signifies, according to Sir James Ware (historian), James Ware, "a wonderful place on an eminence", or as some interpret it, ''"the hill of miracles."'' Easter Rising
The Easter Rising ( ga, Éirí Amach na Cásca), also known as the Easter Rebellion, was an armed insurrection in Ireland during Easter Week in April 1916. The Rising was launched by Irish republicans against British rule in Ireland with the aim of establishing an independent Irish Republic while the United Kingdom was fighting the First World War. It was the most significant uprising in Ireland since the rebellion of 1798 and the first armed conflict of the Irish revolutionary period.
