''Raheen'' is a heritage-listed Italianate mansion located at 94 Studley Park Road in the Melbourne suburb of Kew, Victoria, Australia. Built in the 1870s, its name means "little fort" in Irish. Listed on the Victorian Heritage Register on 14 July 1982, ''Raheen'' is owned by members of the Pratt family and is the principal Australian residence for Anthony Pratt. History The first section of ''Raheen'' was commenced in 1870 with an extension added in 1884. It was designed by William Salway and built for Edward Latham of the Carlton Brewery. Sir Henry Wrixon, prominent Melbourne barrister and solicitor, later owned and resided at the property. ''Raheen'' was constructed as a two-storey house in the Italianate style with a four-storey tower over the entrance and single-storey extension. It was designed in an asymmetric and arcaded form, and is built of red brick with cement render. Tuamgraney (; archaically spelled ''Tomgraney, Tomgrenei''; ) is a village in eastern County Clare in the west of Ireland and a civil parish by the same name. Situated a kilometre from the River Graney which flows into Lough Derg, it is an ancient settlement, noted for St Cronán's Church, said to be the oldest church in constant use in Ireland Location The parish is in the barony of Tulla Upper and contains the villages of Scarriff and Tomgraney. It is and covers . The parish is rugged, with heights ranging from above sea level. It contains the Scariff river from its headstreams through Lough O'Grady to its mouth in Scarriff bay, Lough Derg. Raheen () is a small village south of Portlaoise in County Laois, Ireland. History The Gothic revival Roman Catholic parish church of Raheen is dedicated to St. Fintan and dates from 1857. The first Catholic church, a thatched chapel, was built in 1729 on a site granted by a Protestant family named Baldwin. Mr. Baldwin granted the land after seeing poor Catholics assembled at Mass in a deep pit, which is called the ''Mass Pit'' even to the present time. The graveyard in the village marks the site of the old thatched chapel. Education There is one primary school, Tobar an Léinn, located in the area. Initially developed to ease population overspill from the city of Limerick, Raheen is socioeconomically diverse, ranging from older, poor class housing estates to relatively affluent areas. History The oldest parts of the area were built in the 1960s and 1970s. In the following years, Raheen and neighbouring Dooradoyle both experienced growth, particularly during the Celtic Tiger. Raheen became one of Limerick's more multicultural areas, as it was a common destination for immigrants. Raheen () is a townland and village in County Wexford, Ireland. It lies 27 km from Wexford, 11 km from New Ross, and 23 km from Enniscorthy. Etymology Raheen, in Irish (or simply ), means 'the little rath or ringfort'. A rath or ringfort was a fortified wooden human dwelling. History For most of the Norman period, the area was controlled by the ''Howell'' family. They gave their name to nearby 'Courthoyle', where they had a chapel and castle. During the Irish Rebellion of 1798, one of the main rebel camps was located at nearby 'Carrigbyrne Hill'. Formerly a R.C. church existed at Courthoyle, nearby to the village of Raheen. The current R.C. church of Raheen dates from 1814. A Protestant church that once existed at the townland of Templeshelin (located about 1 km away) has since been demolished. Raheens is a Gaelic football club based in Caragh, County Kildare, Republic of Ireland, Ireland, winner of the Leinster senior club championship in 1981, 10 county senior football championships, first winners of the Kildare club of the year in 1973 and winners again in 1976. The separate hurling club, formerly known as Éire Óg, has now amalgamated to become Éire Óg-Corrachoill. History Raheens won the first of ten Kildare titles in 1935 with a massive 6-3 to 1-0 win over Kildare St. Brigid's. They won their second in 1936. They climbed back onto the winner's podium with the help of Pat Dunny in 1964. A 1981 win led to Leinster club championship honours.
