Ragueneau, Quebec
Ragueneau () is a parish municipality located on Outardes Bay, on the north shore of the maritime estuary of the St. Lawrence River, in Côte-Nord region, Manicouagan RCM, in Quebec, Canada. History The first settlers arrived in 1920, mostly from Saint-Paul-du-Nord, Les Escoumins, and Sainte-Anne-de-Portneuf. That same year, Ragueneau Township was proclaimed and named after Jesuit Paul Ragueneau (1608-1680). In 1926, its post office opened. Three communities developed concurrently along the shores of the Saint Lawrence: Rivière-à-la-Truite in the north-east, Ruisseau-Vert in the centre, and Ragueneau in the south-west. The main administrative, commercial, cultural, and religious activities concentrated in Ruisseau-Vert, so that over time this community became known as Ragueneau itself. Baie-Comeau () is a city in the Côte-Nord region of the province of Quebec, Canada. It is located on the shores of the St. Lawrence River, and is the seat of Manicouagan Regional County Municipality. It is near the mouth of the Manicouagan River, named after the adjacent Comeau Bay. It has a population of 20,687 in the 2021 Canadian census, and the census agglomeration population is 26,643. Baie-Comeau is the birthplace of Brian Mulroney, former Prime Minister of Canada. Portneuf-sur-Mer () is a municipality in the Côte-Nord region of the province of Quebec in Canada. The municipality is located at the mouth of the Portneuf River on the St. Lawrence River. The municipality was known as Sainte-Anne-de-Portneuf prior to January 31, 2004. History Around 1500, this place was already visited by Basques whalers and sealers, who may have named it after Port-Neuf near Bayonne in Basque Country. It was mentioned by Samuel de Champlain in 1626 as "Port neuf", and François de Crespieul held his first mass there in 1683. A trading post existed there at the end of the 17th century.
