Ragnhild Furebotten
Ragnhild Furebotten (born 10 March 1979 in Saltdal, Norway) is a Norwegian fiddler, folk musician and composer, and former member of the traditional folk band Majorstuen and present member and founder of Hekla Stålstrenga. Career Furebotten picked up the fiddle at the age of six, and started her formal musical studies when she attended the music program at Kongsbakken Videregående Skole in Tromsø, at the age of 16, earning her Examen artium in 1998. This is where she first came into contact with guitarist Tore Bruvoll, with whom she has collaborated since. Later she joined Bruvoll at the Telemark University College (1998–2000). Furebotten received her diploma from the Norwegian Academy of Music (2000–2004), and during her studies she was an exchange student at the Fyn Conservatory of Music in Odense, Denmark and there she studied under the guidance of Danish fiddler Harald Haugaard, among others. Saltdal ( sme, Sálát) is a municipality in Nordland county, Norway. It is part of the traditional district of Salten. The administrative centre of the municipality is the village of Rognan. The Norwegian Academy of Music (Norwegian: ''Norges musikkhøgskole'', NMH) is a university-level music conservatory located in Oslo, Norway, in the neighbourhood of Majorstuen, Frogner. Frode Nymo
Frode Nymo (born 27 November 1975), is a Norwegian jazz musician ( alto Saxophone), and older brother of the tenor sax. player Atle Nymo. Career Nymo was born in Egersund and brought up in Valnesfjord, near Fauske. Early in his career, he was a member of the Bodø Big Band led by Henning Gravrok, and he is a graduate of the Jazz Program at Trondheim Musikkonservatorium, where he and fellow students established Urban Connection, awarded the title of "Young Jazz Musicians of the Year" in 1998, at Norway's prestigious Molde International Jazz Festival, forerunner of today's Jazz Intro Award, and Spellemannprisen 2001. Helge Sunde
Helge Sunde (born 9 June 1965 in Stryn, Norway) is a Norwegian composer and musician (trombone and multi-instrumentalist), known for his compositions in contemporary music and jazz for large ensembles and for his works as music arranger for symphony orchestras in collaboration with artists. Career Sunde has a diploma in composition from the Norwegian Academy of Music (1995) in Oslo, where he studied under guidance of Olav Anton Thommessen, Bjørn Kruse, Lasse Thoresen and Alfred Janson. His diploma work ''Festina lente'' is available on the album ''Absolute Pling-Plong: Eight ways of making music'', performed by the BIT20 Ensemble. Hekla Stålstrenga (band)
Hekla Stålstrenga is a Norwegian folk and folk rock band specializing in North Norwegian traditional music. It was formed in 2008 as a duo by fiddler Ragnhild Furebotten and guitarist Tore Bruvoll. They had their first recording as a duo, for which they were nominated during Spellemannprisen, the Norwegian Grammies, for "Best folk music band". They later on added lead vocalist Anne Nymo Trulsen, drummer Ole-Jakob Larsen and acoustic bassist Trond-Viggo Solas to become a five-member band. The band was nominated for another Spellemannprisen in 2011 after release of their album ''Makramé''. The album charted in VG-lista, the official Norwegian Albums Chart. Gjermund Larsen
Gjermund Larsen (born 29 July 1981 in Verdal, Norway) is a Norwegian traditional folk musician (violin) and composer, known from several bands and recordings. Career Larsen is a trained musician from the Ole Bull Academy at Voss, and the traditional folk music program at the Norwegian Academy of Music in Oslo. During his studies he joined the band Majorstuen, and contributed on several album releases, including ''Majorstuen'' awarded Spellemannprisen 2003. Frode Haltli (born 15 May 1975 in Levanger), is a Norwegian accordion player. Biography Haltli started to play the accordion at the age of seven and over the following few years he won several national competitions and scholarships and was awarded first prize in Norwegian TV's ' ''1991''. WOMEX
WOMEX (short for Worldwide Music Expo) is an international world music support and development project based in Berlin, whose main event is an exposition held annually in different locations throughout Europe. It integrates a trade fair, showcases, conferences, film screenings, networking sessions, and awards. Musicians and their labels have the possibility to make contacts for international touring and album distribution. Spellemannprisen, often referred to as the Norwegian Grammy Awards in English, is a Norwegian music award presented to Norwegian musicians. The award was established by the International Federation of the Phonographic Industry (IFPI), an organization that represents the interests of the recording industry worldwide. First awarded in 1973, the prize honours musicians from the previous year; it is still awarded annually, usually in January or February. Arvid Hanssen
Arvid Hanssen (28 July 1932 – 31 July 1998) was a Norwegian journalist, newspaper editor, poet, novelist and children's writer. Biography Hanssen was born in Vika at Indre Senja in Troms. He completed Finnsnes High School in 1948. He graduated from Moldenæs University College in Tromsø in 1951. Hanssen became as a journalist in 1957. He became the editor of the newspaper ''Senjens Blad'' from 1957 to 1962. From 1963 he was editor of the magazine ''Midnattsol''. In 1972, Hanssen became a full-time author and song writer. His songs reached a wide audience through Tove Karoline Knutsen's 1980 album ''Blå kveill'', which was based on Hanssen's lyrics. Målselv ( sme, Málatvuomi suohkan) is a municipality in Troms og Finnmark county, Norway. The administrative centre of the municipality is the village of Moen.
