Rafiqul Alam (cricketer)
Rafiqul Alam ( bn, রফিকুল আলম) (born 4 October 1957) is a former Bangladeshi cricketer who played in two One Day Internationals in the 1986 Asia Cup. In his debut match against Pakistan he scored 14. He followed this with 10 against Sri Lanka. In ICC Trophy He was a member of the Bangladesh team that took part in the 2nd ICC Trophy tournament in England. He played in all 7 matches (including the semi-Final against eventual champions Zimbabwe). Alam, however, failed to impress and scored only 79 runs. His highest was 33 in the very first match against West Africa. He was slightly more successful four years later. He scored 135 runs with an average of 27.00. His top score was 51 against Malaysia. He also took 5 wickets in the tournament. Rafiqul Islam (16 July 1950 – 20 November 2013) was a Bangladeshi-born Canadian language activist. He played a major role in achieving recognition of February 21 as the International Mother Language Day, proclaimed by the General Conference of UNESCO in November 1999. He was awarded Independence Day Award posthumously by the Government of Bangladesh in 2016. Rafiqul Hassan Khan (1958 – 23 September 1981) was a Bangladeshi army officer who was executed for this alleged involvement in the Assassination of Ziaur Rahman, assassination of president Ziaur Rahman. Career Early life and Bangladesh Liberation War Raifqul Hasan Khan was born in 1958 in Meherpur of Kushtia district. He was a student at Jhenaidah Cadet College when the Bangladesh Liberation War began in 1971. Aged 13, he participated in the war, alongside his father, Mohammad Hashem Ali Khan. Rafiqul Islam ( – 5 March 2018) was a Bangladeshi physician and medical scientist. He is known for the discovery of food saline (Orsaline) for the treatment of diarrhea. Early life and education Islam was born in 1936 in the then British India's Bengal Presidency (now Bangladesh) in Chauddagram Upazila, Comilla. He passed MBBS from Dhaka Medical College and Hospital in 1965. Later, he received high education in Trinity Medicine and Hygiene in Trinity (UK). Career After passing MBBS, Islam joined the International Center for Diarrheal Disease Research, Bangladesh and retired from this institution in 2000. Rafiqul Islam (1 January 1934 – 30 November 2021) was a Bangladeshi educationist, scholar, writer, linguist and cultural activist. He was the president of Bangla Academy since May 2021 until his death. He was inducted as a National Professor by the Government of Bangladesh in July 2018. He was a vice-chancellor (2007–2011), professor emeritus and adviser to the Centre for Bangla Studies of the University of Liberal Arts Bangladesh (ULAB).
