Rafiquddin Ahmad (1 March 1932 – 13 September 2013) was chairman of Bangladesh Engineering and Shipbuilding Corporation. Throughout his career he was the founding chairman of Bangladesh Chemical Industries Corporation (BCIC), was founding director of ICTVTR, now known as Islamic University of Technology (IUT), was founding member of The Institute of Engineers, Bangladesh and former Chairman of Bangladesh Steel and Engineering Corporation (BSEC). IUT offers undergraduate and graduate programs in Engineering and Technical Education. This well reputed university is the only international Engineering university in Bangladesh. Bangladesh University of Engineering and Technology, commonly known by the acronym BUET, is a public technological research university in Dhaka, Bangladesh. Founded in 1876 as the Dacca Survey School, it is the oldest institution for the study of engineering, architecture and urban planning in Bangladesh. A large number of BUET alumni are active in notable engineering and non-engineering roles in Bangladesh and abroad. History Dacca Survey School was established in 1876 at Nalgola, west of the current Sir Salimullah Medical College campus, in Old Dhaka by the Government of Bengal under British Raj. It offered two-year engineering and survey courses toward the Sub-Overseer's examination, which certified land surveyors. According to a report on public instruction in Bengal, on 31 March 1903, Dhaka Survey School had 117 students of which 103 were Hindus and 14 were Muslims.
