Rafah Displacement Camp Airstrike
On 26 May 2024, the Israeli Air Force attacked a displacement camp in Tel al-Sultan refugee camp, Tel al-Sultan, Rafah, allegedly targeting a compound with two senior Hamas commanders. The attack set the compound on fire and killed between 45 and 50 Palestinians, including women and children, and injured over 200. Sometimes referred to as the Rafah tent massacre (مجزرة الخيم), it was the deadliest incident of the Rafah offensive. When Israel invaded Rafah and ordered the evacuation of its east, some citizens fled to other parts of the city, like Tel Al-Sultan, seeking safety. One week before the bombing, Israel had designated the neighborhood as a "safe zone" and dropped leaflets instructing Palestinians to move there. Tel Al-Sultan Refugee Camp
Tel al-Sultan or Tall as-Sultan ( ar, معسكر تل السلطان) is one of eight Palestinian refugee camps in the Gaza Strip. It is located in the Rafah Governorate just north of Rafah city and Rafah Camp. A series of occupation protests by pro-Palestinian students occurred at Columbia University in New York City from April to June 2024, in the context of the broader Israel–Hamas war related protests in the United States. The protests began on April 17, 2024, when pro-Palestinian students established an encampment of approximately 50 tents on the university campus, calling it the Gaza Solidarity Encampment, and demanded the university divest from Israel. Al-Mawasi, Rafah
Al-Mawasi ( ar, المواصي) is a Palestinian Bedouin town on the southern coast of the Gaza Strip, approximately one kilometer wide and fourteen kilometers long, that prior to Israel's unilateral disengagement plan in 2005 existed as a Palestinian enclave within the Katif bloc of Israeli settlements.
