Radipole Railway Station
Radipole was a railway station serving Radipole a northern area of Weymouth in the county of Dorset in England. History Opened by the GWR as ''Radipole Halt'' on 1 July 1905, it was part of a scheme by the railway company to counter road competition, particularly from Weymouth's buses. Situated from , it was initially served by local to rail motor and Abbotsbury trains. The station lasted well into the nationalised era served by to Weymouth trains on what is now known as the South West Main Line, as well as Westbury line DMUs. When built, its two short platforms had GWR pagoda shelters but these rusted and were replaced with bus shelters in 1978. The word ''Halt'' was dropped from its title (and from that of other surviving BR stations where it had previously appeared) on 5 May 1969. No further services called at Radipole after 31 December 1983 as, according to the Southern Region of British Railways, its wooden platforms had become "too unsafe for use to continue". ...

Radipole
Radipole was is a suburb of Weymouth in Dorset, England. History It was formerly an independent parish, until abolished as a separate local government unit in 1933. It remains a separate ecclesiastical parish. Radipole stands at the head of, and is named after, the lake, now an RSPB nature reserve, into which the River Wey flows, and which leads into Weymouth Harbour. Until 1984, it had Radipole railway station on the South West Main Line and Heart of Wessex Line out of Weymouth. There is some evidence of prehistoric occupation, and it is believed that the Romans had a small port or landing stage at the head of the lake. A Romano-British burial site was found nearby when the upper playing field of Southill Primary School was constructed. The archetypal Pagoda Platform Shelter was a distinctively-shaped corrugated iron structure used by passengers waiting at railway stations in Wales and southern England. Origins In Britain Pagoda shelters are associated with the Great Western Railway (GWR) who introduced them in 1907 and erected a patchwork of them across their network. They were manufactured by an outside supplier and delivered in kit form. They could therefore be assembled offsite, delivered on standard well wagons and craned into position, or assembled onsite, according to circumstances. The GWR opened its first "Haltes" on 12 October 1903, anglicising the name to "Halt" in 1905. The Railway Correspondence and Travel Society (RCTS) is a national society founded in Cheltenham, England in 1928 to bring together those interested in rail transport and locomotives. Since 1929 the Society has published a regular journal ''The Railway Observer'' which records the current railway scene. Wilts, Somerset And Weymouth Railway
The Wilts, Somerset and Weymouth Railway (WS&WR) was an early railway company in south-western England. It obtained Parliamentary powers in 1845 to build a railway from near Chippenham in Wiltshire, southward to Salisbury and Weymouth in Dorset. It opened the first part of the network but found it impossible to raise further money and sold its line to the Great Western Railway (GWR) in 1850. The GWR took over the construction and undertook to build an adjacent connecting line; the network was complete in 1857. In the early years of the 20th century the GWR wanted to shorten its route from London to the West of England and built "cut-off" lines in succession to link part of the WS&WR network, so that by 1906 the express trains ran over the Westbury to Castle Cary section. Weymouth railway station is the main railway station serving the town of Weymouth, Dorset, England (the other being Upwey station which is located north of the town centre).
