The Federal Communications Commission (FCC) is an independent agency of the United States federal government that regulates communications by radio, television, wire, satellite, and cable across the United States. The FCC maintains jurisdiction over the areas of broadband access, fair competition, radio frequency use, media responsibility, public safety, and homeland security. The FCC was formed by the Communications Act of 1934 to replace the radio regulation functions of the Federal Radio Commission. KASA (AM)
KASA (1540 AM and K294CW 106.7 FM) is a radio station broadcasting a Regional Mexican format. Licensed to Phoenix, Arizona, United States, the station serves the Phoenix area. The station is currently owned by Kasa Radio Hogar, Inc. History KASA signed on in 1966, reviving a callsign that had once been assigned to a radio station in Elk City, Oklahoma. It was a religious station, the second in Phoenix behind KHEP at 1280, and was built by Seattle-based Eastside Broadcasting, which also owned four religious radio stations in Washington state. In April 1980, it built and signed on an FM sister station, KMLE, which broadcast a mix of religious programs and easy-listening music. The station switched from English to Spanish, retaining its religious format, in the mid-1990s. In 2018, this station relaunched as "La Indiscreta FM" with a Regional Mexican format. Douglas, Arizona
Douglas is a city in Cochise County, Arizona, United States that lies in the north-west to south-east running Sulpher Springs Valley. Douglas has a border crossing with Mexico at Agua Prieta and a history of mining. The population was 16,531 in the 2020 Census. History The Douglas area was first settled by the Spanish in the 18th century. Presidio de San Bernardino was established in 1776 and abandoned in 1780. It was located a few miles east of present-day Douglas. The United States Army established Camp San Bernardino in the latter half of the 19th century near the presidio, and in 1910 Camp Douglas was built next to the town. Douglas was founded as an American smelter town, to treat the copper ores of nearby Bisbee, Arizona. The town is named after mining pioneer Dr. James Douglas and was incorporated in 1905. Founded in 1968 as Entercom Communications Corporation, it is the second largest radio company in the United States, owning 235 radio stations across 48 media markets. In November 2017, the company merged with CBS Radio. KALV-FM (101.5 MHz, "Live 101-5") is a commercial FM radio station in Phoenix, Arizona. It is owned by Audacy, Inc. and it airs a Top 40/ CHR format. KALV-FM's studios are located in downtown Phoenix, and its transmitter is in South Mountain Park. For its first 20 years, the stations went by the call letters KHEP. From 1992 - 2016, the station used the callsign KZON. History Early years On July 5, 1964, the station signed on the air as KHEP-FM and aired a classical music format. Camp Verde, Arizona
Camp Verde ( yuf-x-yav, ʼMatthi:wa; Western Apache: Gambúdih) is a town in Yavapai County, Arizona, United States. As of the 2010 census, the population of the town is 10,873. The town hosts an annual corn festival in July, sponsored and organized by Hauser and Hauser Farms. Other annual festivals include Fort Verde Days (October); the Pecan, Wine and Antiques Festival (February); and the Crawdad Festival (June). Geography The town is bisected by I-17, extending to the west and to the east of the interstate. Highway 260 connects Camp Verde with Payson to the east and Cottonwood to the west. KAJM (104.3 FM) is a commercial rhythmic oldies-formatted radio station in Camp Verde, Arizona, broadcasting to Phoenix, Arizona. Its studios are located on Indian School Road in Phoenix, and its transmitter is in Crown King. History The station began in the summer of 1984 as KKJJ 103.9, a Class A station licensed to Payson, and would remain until 1987, when they got the approval and completed the move to 104.3. The original format was country. Callsigns since then included first KAFM then KRIM then KBZG which were in use during part of the KBZR simulcast. Air1 is an American Christian radio network. Owned by the Educational Media Foundation (EMF), it primarily broadcasts contemporary worship music, and is a sister to the EMF's K-Love network. History In 1986, KLRD began broadcasting Christian Hit/Rock music from Yucaipa, California, and went by the on-air moniker K-LORD. In 1994, KXRD was started as a sister station to KLRD. In 1995, K-LORD changed its name to "Air1" and began broadcasting via satellite from St. Helens, Oregon. In 1999, Air1 joined with EMF Broadcasting, and finally in 2002, it moved its headquarters to Rocklin, California. Air1 makes use of broadcast translators to spread the signal across much of the country. Avondale is a city in Maricopa County, Arizona, United States, adjacent to Phoenix. As of the 2020 census, the population of the city was 89,334, up from 76,238 in 2010 and 35,883 in 2000.
