The RSTN consists of ground-based observatories in Australia, Italy, Massachusetts, and Hawaii. In particular, the sun emits continuous electromagnetic energy and electrically charged particles, which can cause disturbances in the near-Earth environment and disrupt satellite communications. RAAF Learmonth
RAAF Base Learmonth, also known as Learmonth Airport , is a joint use Royal Australian Air Force base and civil airport. It is located near the town of Exmouth on the north-west coast of Western Australia. RAAF Base Learmonth is one of the RAAF's three bare bases. No RAAF units are currently based at Learmonth and it is maintained by a small caretaker staff during peacetime. The RAAF also operates the Learmonth Air Weapons Range which covers about and is located south-west of the airbase. Paul Wild Observatory
The Paul Wild Observatory, also known as the Narrabri Observatory and Culgoora Observatory, is an astronomical research facility located about 24 km west of Narrabri, New South Wales, Australia. It is the home of the Australia Telescope Compact Array, and the Culgoora Solar Observatory. The site itself and the Australia Telescope Compact Array are run by Australia's science agency, the CSIRO. The current Solar observatory, Solar Observatory is run by the Space Weather Services section of Australia's Bureau of Meteorology. The site is named in honour of Australian radio astronomer Paul Wild (Australian scientist), Paul Wild, who headed the team that built the instrument that the site was established for – the Culgoora Radioheliograph, the world's first radioheliograph – which ran from 1967 to 1984.
