Radio Programas de México (RPM) was a radio company of Mexico, founded by Emilio Azcárraga Vidaurreta and Clemente Serna Martínez in 1941. It was a pioneer in the expansion of Mexican radio, particularly in the creation of radio networks. RPM, known in its final years as Radiodifusión Red, was sold to Grupo Radio Centro in 1994. History RPM began operations on May 31, 1941, a joint venture of Monterrey broadcaster Clemente Serna Martínez, and Azcárraga, who already owned two of Mexico's most popular radio stations: XEW and XEQ. Emilio Azcárraga Vidaurreta
Emilio Azcárraga Vidaurreta (2 March 1895, Tampico, Tamaulipas – 23 September 1972, Mexico City) was a Mexican businessman who built an entertainment conglomerate. The son of Basque immigrants Mariano Azcárraga and Emilia Vidaurreta, his primary education was in Piedras Negras, Coahuila, middle school in San Antonio, Texas, and high school in Austin. Early career Aged 17, he was employed at a shoe store while he studied trade and economics by night. He obtained distribution rights for a shoe manufacturer in Boston and, at age 23, he created the car distribution company, ''Azcárraga & Copland''. XHFAJ-FM
XHFAJ-FM is a radio station on 91.3 FM in Mexico City. The station is owned by Grupo Radio Centro and carries a Contemporary hit radio format known as Alfa 91.3. XEDKR-AM (700 AM, "Universal") is a Spanish-language radio station in Guadalajara. It relays programming from XHRED-FM 88.1 in Mexico City. 700 kHz is a United States clear-channel frequency. History The first concession for 700 AM in Zapopan was awarded on October 17, 1953, for XEAR-AM and awarded to J. de Jesús Franco Gómez. By the 1960s, the station was transferred to Asociación Radiofónica, S.A., and sometime between 1969 and 1974, the callsign was changed to the present XEDKR-AM as a result of its acquisition by Radio Grupo DK (the Guadalajara arm of Radio Programas de México). It was known as Radio Ambiente in the early 1970s and by the late 1980s had become a direct repeater of Radio Red. XESTN-AM
XESTN-AM ( 1540 AM, "Universal") is a Spanish-language radio station in Monterrey, Nuevo León, Mexico. It relays programming from XHRED-FM 88.1 in Mexico City. 1540 AM is a United States clear-channel frequency. History The first concession for XESTN was awarded on November 29, 1988, to Jesús D. González González of Grupo Multimedios. The station was originally daytime-only and licensed to Santa Catarina. It was transferred in 2000 to Radio Red, S.A. de C.V., though Radio Red programs had been airing on XESTN since at least 1994. In 2009, the station increased its daytime power to 5,000 watts. On January 14, 2019, concurrent with a major reshuffling and the relaunch of XERC-FM Mexico City as talk station "Radio Centro 97.7", XESTN and XEDKR-AM Guadalajara began simulcasting that station instead of Radio Red.
