Radio Nation
''GRITradio'' was a weekend radio show hosted by writer and long-time radio host Laura Flanders and produced by GRITtv. The show features in-depth interviews with activists, journalists, and writers. The show began as ''The Laura Flanders Show'' and became ''RadioNation with Laura Flanders'' on January 7, 2006. The show airs weekend evenings on noncommercial radio stations across the country. Radio programming is the process of organising a schedule of radio content for commercial broadcasting and public broadcasting by radio stations. History The original inventors of radio, from Guglielmo Marconi's time on, expected it to be used for one-on-one wireless communication tasks where telephones and telegraphs could not be used because of the problems involved in stringing copper wires from one point to another, such as in ship-to-shore communications. Those inventors had no expectations whatever that radio would become a major mass media entertainment and information medium earning many millions of dollars in revenues annually through radio advertising commercials or sponsorship. These latter uses were brought about after 1920 by business entrepreneurs such as David Sarnoff, who created the National Broadcasting Company (NBC), and William S. Laura Flanders
Laura Flanders (born 5 December 1961) is an English broadcast journalist living in the United States who presents the weekly, long-form interview show ''The Laura Flanders Show''. Flanders has described herself as a "lefty person". The brothers Alexander, Andrew and Patrick Cockburn, all journalists, are her half-uncles. Author Lydia Davis is her half-aunt. Her sister is Stephanie Flanders, a former BBC journalist. Actress Olivia Wilde is her cousin. Early life Flanders is the daughter of the British comic songwriter and broadcaster Michael Flanders and the American-born Claudia Cockburn, first daughter of radical journalist Claud Cockburn and American author Hope Hale Davis. She was raised in the Kensington district of London and moved to the U.S. in 1980 at age 19. Air America (radio Network)
Air America (formerly Air America Radio and Air America Media) was an American radio network specializing in progressive talk radio. It was on the air from March 2004 to January 2010. The network was founded as a left wing alternative to counter talk radio with a right wing perspective. Air America featured programs with monologues by on-air personalities, guest interviews, call-ins from listeners, and news reports. Several shows had million plus audiences, and multiple weekday presenters continued on in radio, television, or politics after their time on Air America. For example, in 2008, ''The Thom Hartmann Program'' had 1.5–2 million unique listeners a week and '' The Lionel Show'' had 1.5–1.75 million unique listeners a week.
