Public radio broadcasting began in Singapore in April 1925, after the Malaysian Amateur Radio Transmitters' Society, Amateur Wireless Society of Malaya obtained a temporary license to broadcast. Mediacorp, Radio Singapura was established as the first local Mass marketing, mass market radio service in 1959. The Malaysian Amateur Radio Transmitters' Society (MARTS) is a non-profit organisation for amateur radio enthusiasts in Malaysia. MARTS was founded in 1952 and became a National Society ever since. The organisation's primary mission is to popularise and promote amateur radio in Malaysia. SAFRA National Service Association is an organisation that was formed as a social and recreational club for National Servicemen from the Singapore Armed Forces. It was originally formed in 1972 as the "Singapore Armed Forces Reservist Association".
