Radio Grapevine
Radio Grapevine is the hospital radio station serving St John's Hospital in Livingston, Scotland. It is run by a voluntary team of around 40 members who collect requests, produce and present shows, raise funds and present "outdoor broadcasts" for the local community. As a charitable organisation, no member is paid for their services. History The station is registered under the name of ''West Lothian Hospital Broadcasting Service'' (Scottish Charity No: SC022224). The station was founded in 1988 when plans for a new hospital in Livingston New Town were unveiled. Present at that initial meeting were volunteers of the newly created charity. It took four years to get the station on air and in 1992 the new Hospital Radio service for West Lothian began broadcasting across the newly built St John's Hospital at Howden in Livingston. St John's Hospital, Livingston
St John's Hospital is the main general hospital in Livingston, West Lothian, Scotland. Located in the Howden area of the town, it serves Livingston and the wider West Lothian region. St John's is a teaching hospital for the University of Edinburgh Medical School. It is managed by NHS Lothian. History The hospital was commissioned to replace Bangour General Hospital, near Dechmont to the north of Livingston. Livingston Development Corporation, which oversaw the development of the new town of Livingston from 1962, had planned to move the general hospital to Livingston from around 1974. Livingston ( sco, Leivinstoun, gd, Baile Dhunlèibhe) is the largest town in West Lothian, Scotland. Designated in 1962, it is the fourth post-war new town to be built in Scotland. Hospital Broadcasting Association
The Hospital Broadcasting Association (HBA) supports the 210 or so independent hospital broadcasting organisations serving hospitals, hospices and nursing homes in the UK. The vast majority of these organisations provide hospital radio services through a variety of broadcast medium as well as a few hospital television services. HBA's patron is the former Head of Presentation at BBC Radio 2, Alan Dedicoat, who before joining the BBC started his radio life in the hospital radio "trade".
