Radio Blank
Radio Blank was an English short-lived R&B and punk band formed on the Wirral Peninsula, in November 1976,''Pete Frame's Rock Family Tree'' by Alan Gill (guitar), Keith Hartley (vocals), David Balfe (bass) and Steven Brick (drums). In mid 1970s, Gill, Hartley and Balfe, who lived in Thingwall, Wirral, were in a band called Mr. McKenzie. In November 1976, the band changed their name to Radio Blank, and were inspired by punk and popular Liverpool band Deaf School, playing only fifteen times, five of those at the Eric's Club, in Liverpool. The band were playing their own material, and also covers such as The Kinks' " You Really Got Me" and " Peaches" (originally by The Stranglers). At the end of 1977, Gill and Balfe felt punk was not interesting, and they decided to disband Radio Blank. Thingwall
Thingwall is a village on the Wirral Peninsula, in Merseyside, England. The village is situated approximately to the south west of Birkenhead and north east of Heswall. Historically part of Cheshire, the area is within the Pensby and Thingwall Ward of the Metropolitan Borough of Wirral and the parliamentary constituency of Wirral West. At the 2001 census, Thingwall had 3,140 inhabitants. The 2011 census registered the total ward population at 13,007. Eric's Club
Eric's Club was a music club in Liverpool, England. It opened on 1 October 1976 in the basement of The Fruit Exchange in Victoria Street, with performances by The Runaways and The Sex Pistols (their only Liverpool gig) before soon moving around the block to its long-term site on Mathew Street opposite The Cavern Club where The Beatles and other bands of the 1960s played, and became notable for hosting early performances by many punk and post-punk bands. The club was started by Roger Eagle and Ken Testi (manager of cult Liverpool band Deaf School) and joined later by Pete Fulwell (owner of a small record label "Inevitable" and later to become manager of Liverpool bands It's Immaterial and The Christians). ''Compass Kumpas'' (aka ''Compass kum'pəs'') was the first album from Dalek I Love You (band), Dalek I Love You, shortened to Dalek I for this album and accompanying singles. It was released on May 24, 1980, by Back Door/Phonogram Records, Phonogram records. In 1983, the band recorded a second self-titled album using its full name: ''Dalek I Love You (album), Dalek I Love You''. In 1989 ''Compass Kumpas'' was reissued on CD (Fontana 836 894–2) with four bonus tracks. Reception Sounding like a combination of early Orchestral Manoeuvres in the Dark, Gary Numan and Brian Eno, the album received fairly good reviews upon its release. The ''NME'' called the album "refreshingly wry and friendly". However, Red Starr, writing in ''Smash Hits'', described the album as a "characterless, colourless collection. David Alan Hughes (born 25 April 1960) is an English keyboardist who played in different new wave bands, and later became successful making music for films. Biography New wave years A self-taught musician, David Hughes was born in Birkenhead, England. He founded Dalek I Love You in 1977, alongside guitarist Alan Gill, bassist David Balfe and Chris Teepee. He, alongside Gill, was a remaining member, playing on the first three singles and the debut album, ''Compass Kumpas'', in 1980. However, in January 1980, he left the band, and the album was released in May, when he had left. In January 1980 he joined Orchestral Manoeuvres In The Dark as percussionist, although he switched to keyboards, and became the group's fourth member playing live on OMD's first headlining tour, live on the ''Old Grey Whistle Test'' and for mimed performances of hit single Messages on Top of the Pops. The Stranglers
The Stranglers are an English rock band who emerged via the punk rock scene. Scoring 23 UK top 40 singles and 19 UK top 40 albums to date in a career spanning five decades, the Stranglers are one of the longest-surviving bands to have originated in the UK punk scene. Formed as the Guildford Stranglers in Guildford, Surrey, in early 1974, they originally built a following within the mid-1970s pub rock scene. "Peaches" is a punk rock single by the Stranglers, from their debut studio album '' Rattus Norvegicus'' (1977). Notable for its distinctive bassline, the track peaked at No. 8 in the UK Singles Chart. Song information The lyrics to "Peaches" featured coarse sexual language and innuendo to a degree that was unusual for the time. The song's narrator is girl-watching on a crowded beach one hot summer day. It is never made clear if his lascivious thoughts (such as "there goes a girl and a half") are an interior monologue, comments to his mates, or come-on lines to the attractive women in question.
