Radiance (album)
''Radiance'' is a double-album by American pianist Keith Jarrett recorded in 2002 in Japan at two different concerts: Osaka (October 27) and Tokyo (October 30). It was released by ECM Records in 2005. And in April 2006, a video recording of the live performance at Tokyo concert was released as ''Tokyo Solo''. After dismissing the idea of performing lengthy improvised solos (see '' A Multitude of Angels''), ''Radiance'' marked a new beginning in Jarrett's approach to solo piano concerts and this would be assessed in future solo recordings. Keith Jarrett
Keith Jarrett (born May 8, 1945) is an American jazz and classical music pianist and composer. Jarrett started his career with Art Blakey and later moved on to play with Charles Lloyd and Miles Davis. Since the early 1970s, he has also been a group leader and solo performer in jazz, jazz fusion, and classical music. His improvisations draw from the traditions of jazz and other genres, including Western classical music, gospel, blues, and ethnic folk music. His album, ''The Köln Concert'', released in 1975, became the best-selling piano recording in history. In 2008, he was inducted into the Down Beat Jazz Hall of Fame in the magazine's 73rd Annual Readers' Poll. In 2003, Jarrett received the Polar Music Prize and was the first recipient to be recognized with prizes for both contemporary and classical music. Chronic fatigue syndrome (CFS), also called myalgic encephalomyelitis (ME) or ME/CFS, is a complex, debilitating, long-term medical condition. The causes and mechanisms of the disease are not fully understood. ''A Multitude of Angels'' is a four-CD collection of solo piano performances by Keith Jarrett recorded in Italy in October 1996 and released by ECM Records twenty years later. According to ECM, these performances document "the conclusion of Keith Jarrett's experiments with long-form improvisation in performances" and, as Jarrett explains in his liner notes, these were his last concerts with no breaks within each set. Music and recording The music comes from four concerts recorded in Italy: in Modena, Ferrara, Torino, and Genova, on October 23, 25, 28, and 30, 1996, respectively.
