Rachel Roddy
Rachel Roddy (born 1972) is a food writer and cook book author from London, England, who now resides in Rome, Italy. Life Rachel Roddy grew up in Hertfordshire and would often visit her maternal grandmother's pub in Oldham. Roddy originally trained as an actor and moved to Italy in 2005 and worked as a waitress while learning Italian. She now lives in the Testaccio district of Rome, with her partner and son. She began food writing on her blog, ''Rachel Eats'' in 2008. She was soon spotted by ''The Guardian'' and now writes a weekly column for their ''Feast'' supplement. Books She is the author of three Italian cookbooks: the André Simeon Memorial Fund Award-winning ''Five Quarters'' (published 2015), ''Two Kitchens (2017),'' and her latest cookbook, ''An A-Z of Pasta (2021)''.' Testaccio is the 20th ''rione'' of Rome, identified by the initials R. XX, deriving its name from Monte Testaccio. It is located within the Municipio I. Its coat of arms depicts an ''amphora'', referencing to the broken vessels that Monte Testaccio is made of. Gela (Sicilian and ; grc, Γέλα) is a city and (municipality) in the Autonomous Region of Sicily, Italy; in terms of area and population, it is the largest municipality on the southern coast of Sicily. Food writing is a genre of writing that focuses on food and includes works by food critics, food journalists, chefs and food historians. Definition Food writers regard food as a substance and a cultural phenomenon. John T. Edge, an American food writer, explains how writers in the genre view its topic: "Food is essential to life.
