Rachel Boyack
Rachel Elizabeth Boyack is a New Zealand politician and Member of Parliament in the House of Representatives for the Labour Party. Early life and career For three years, Boyack was the student union president for Saniti, the student union for Nelson Marlborough Institute of Technology. Following that, from about 2012 onward, she became the Nelson organiser of First Union. Her activities have included protesting pay at supermarkets, clashing with the mayor of Nelson, Rachel Reese, and opposing the closure of a bank's branch in Stoke. In 2018 she was appointed to the board of governors of the Nelson Environment Centre and was also on the board of the Nelson Women's and Children's Refuge. Nick Smith (New Zealand Politician)
Nicolas Rex Smith (born 24 December 1964) is a New Zealand politician who served as a Member of Parliament (MP) for the National Party. Smith represented the Nelson electorate from 1996 to 2020 and, before that, was the member for Tasman from 1990 to 1996. During his career, Smith served as a Cabinet minister, holding various posts including Minister for Building and Housing, Minister for the Environment, Minister for Climate Change Issues, and Minister of Local Government. For a brief time between October and November 2003 he was the deputy leader of the National Party, then in opposition under Don Brash. Following his defeat in the Nelson electorate in the 2020 election, he served as a list MP for less than a year before retiring from politics in 2021 after multiple allegations of bullying were made against him. Nelson is a New Zealand parliamentary electorate, returning one Member of Parliament to the House of Representatives of New Zealand. From 1853 to 1860, the electorate was called Town of Nelson. Christ Church Cathedral, Nelson
Christ Church Cathedral is an Anglican cathedral in upper Trafalgar Street, Nelson, New Zealand with seating for 350 people. It is 58 metres in length and 27 metres wide. The tower is 35 metres high. History The original church was erected in 1851 at a different site, and enlarged in 1859. In 1866 the church was named as Christ Church Cathedral and enlarged again. In 1887 a second church was constructed at the current site using much of the same materials of the previous cathedral. In 1925 the current church construction began. Construction was finished in 1965. The majority of marble was sourced from the Pakikiruna Range, near Tākaka. When construction started the marble was to be used in blocks. However, after the 1929 Murchison earthquake this was deemed too risky and far too expensive. The marble was then ground down and mixed with plaster to give the unusual appearance and colour.
