Raboliot
''Raboliot'' is a French novel, written by Maurice Genevoix, published in 1925. It evokes the life of a poacher from Sologne. Considered his greatest work, it won the Prix Goncourt in 1925. The name Raboliot means "wild rabbit" in French. Plot The novel is set in the country-side around Lamotte-Beuvron and Brinon-sur-Sauldre, and deals with the relationship between landowners and poor people in the years after World War I. The Prix Goncourt (french: Le prix Goncourt, , ''The Goncourt Prize'') is a prize in French literature, given by the académie Goncourt to the author of "the best and most imaginative prose work of the year". The prize carries a symbolic reward of only 10 euros, but results in considerable recognition and book sales for the winning author. Julien Bertheau
Julien Bertheau (19 June 1910 – 28 October 1995) was a French actor. Biography Born in Algiers, Algeria, before making his debut at the Comédie-Française on 18 December 1936, he worked as manager of the Theatre de la Porte Saint-Martin, then he studied with Charles Dullin at the Atelier Theatre, appeared in plays at the Comédie des Champs-Elysées and finally worked with Louis Jouvet. He left the Comédie-French after twenty-two years. In 1961, he starred in '' Madame Sans-Gene'' opposite Sophia Loren. Bertheau was one of the favorite actors of Luis Buñuel, appearing in his ''Cela s'appelle l'aurore'' (1955), playing a maitre d'hotel in '' La Voie lactée'' (1969), a bishop in '' Le Charme discret de la bourgeoisie'' (1972) and a policeman in '' Le Fantôme de la liberté'' (1974). Maurice Genevoix
Maurice Genevoix (; 29 November 1890 – 8 September 1980) was a French author. Life Born on 29 November 1890 at Decize, Nièvre as Maurice-Charles-Louis-Genevoix, Genevoix spent his childhood in Châteauneuf-sur-Loire. After attending the local school, he studied at the lycée of Orléans and the Lycée Lakanal. Genevoix was accepted to the Ecole Normale Supérieure, being first in his class, but was soon mobilized into World War I in 1914. He was quickly promoted to a lieutenant. He participated in the bloody battles of the Les Éparges hill as well as along the road of Tranchée de Calonne to the south east of Verdun-sur-Meuse in late 1914 and early 1915. On the 25 April 1915 he was severely wounded in action in his left arm and side in the Tranchée de Calonne sector and returned to Paris. Poacher
Poaching has been defined as the illegal hunting or capturing of wild animals, usually associated with land use rights. Poaching was once performed by impoverished peasants for subsistence purposes and to supplement meager diets. It was set against the hunting privileges of nobility and territorial rulers. Since the 1980s, the term "poaching" has also been used to refer to the illegal harvesting of wild plant species. Sologne
Sologne (; ) is a natural region in Centre-Val de Loire, France, extending over portions of the departements of Loiret, Loir-et-Cher and Cher. Its area is about . To its north is the river Loire, to its south the river Cher, while the districts of Sancerre and Berry are to its east. Its inhabitants are known as the ''Solognots'' (masculine) and ''Solognotes'' (feminine). Lamotte-Beuvron
Lamotte-Beuvron () is a town and commune of about 5000 inhabitants in the Loir-et-Cher department of Centre-Val de Loire, France. The French Federal Equestrian Park, one of the largest in Europe, is based in Lamotte-Beuvron. Each July, the Federal Equestrian Park hosts the French Pony Championship, in which more than 15,000 participants compete. It also houses the permanent offices of the French Equestrian Federation and, since 2009, the Bureau of the National Association of the French Riding Pony.
