Philip Rabinowitz (August 14, 1926 – July 21, 2006) was an American and Israeli applied mathematician. He was best known for his work in numerical analysis, including his books ''A First Course in Numerical Analysis'' with Anthony Ralston and ''Methods of Numerical Integration'' with Philip J. Davis. He was the author of numerous articles on numerical computation. He earned his Ph.D. in 1951 under Walter Gottschalk at the University of Pennsylvania. Paul H. Rabinowitz (born 1939) is the Edward Burr Van Vleck Professor of Mathematics and a Vilas Research Professor at the University of Wisconsin, Madison. He received a Ph.D. from New York University in 1966 under the direction of Jürgen Moser. From 1966 to 1969 he held a position as assistant professor at Stanford University. He has visited many mathematical institutions all over the world (among them universities at Aarhus, Pisa, Paris and ETH in Zurich). Moritz Rabinowitz
Moritz Moses Rabinowitz (20 September 1887 – 27 February 1942) was a retail merchant based in the city of Haugesund, Norway. Rabinowitz was active in the Jewish community in Norway and was an early opponent of Nazism. After Nazi Germany invaded Norway, Rabinowitz was arrested and moved to Germany. He was murdered in Sachsenhausen concentration camp in 1942. Family Rabinowitz was born in Rajgród as a son of Isaac Levi and Chaya Rosa Rabinowitz. It is also known that he had two sisters and a younger brother. The brother – Herman Herschel – also emigrated to Norway and settled in Bergen. Joseph Rabinowitz (23 September 1837 – 17 May 1899) was a Russian missionary to the Jews, who founded the Hebrew Christian movement Novy Israel in 1882. Biography Rabinowitz was born on 23 September 1837 in Resina, Bessarabia. He was brought up as a Ḥasid, but later acquired some secular knowledge and mastered the Russian language. For a time he practised law in the lower courts of his native town, settling subsequently in Kishinev. In 1882 he founded the movement Novy Israel, and began to preach Christianity to the Jews of Kishinev. Jay Andrew Rabinowitz (February 25, 1927 – June 16, 2001) was an American lawyer, jurist, and chief justice of the Alaska Supreme Court for four non-consecutive terms, remaining active as a justice from February 1965 until his mandatory retirement in February 1997. During his time on the Alaska Supreme Court, Rabinowitz wrote more than 1,200 court opinions, 200 of them dissenting. Rabinowitz wrote landmark opinions in cases involving privacy, reproductive freedom, search and seizure, self-incrimination, free speech, and marijuana use.
