Race Walking Association
The Race Walking Association (RWA) is the major competition provider for the event of race walking in England, the Isle of Man and the Channel Islands answerable to England Athletics. It was founded in 1907 as the Road Walking Association, and permitted to organise National Road Walking Championships. Some emphasis is placed on the development of future athletes, and the promotion of walking as a discipline within England. It is a notionally democratic body, controlled by the elected Officers and supported by the elected General Committee. Under this organisation lie three regional bodies; Southern Area RWA, Midlands Area RWA, and Northern Area RWA, each responsible for activities in their region. Impact of the RWA *They make some attempt to promote and maintain popularity of the event within the United Kingdom. *They have twice successfully lobbied for the event not to be removed from the Olympic Games. *Athletes within the RWA area have won 15 Olympic medals: 6 Gold, 5 Silver, 4 ...

Resident Welfare Association
A resident welfare association (frequently abbreviated as RWA) is a Non-governmental organization that represents the interests of the residents of a specific urban or suburban locality, particularly in Indian cities. Membership Membership is voluntary, and the leadership is usually elected by fee-paying members. Members who do not pay the voluntary subscription fee in any year may not vote in the general body and other meetings of the association since they would be deemed as having opted out of the membership of the voluntary association. Such associations cannot force residents to become members and pay annual or other fees but can suspend services to non-paying members. In some localities such associations may bear the word 'Development" in their nomenclature such as development and welfare association. Registration RWAs are not official organs of government, and even slums and illegal housing localities in India can form RWAs to represent citizen interests. RWAs are typi ...

Romance Writers Of America
Romance Writers of America (RWA) is an American non-profit writers' association founded in 1980. Its mission is to "advance the professional and common business interests of career-focused romance writers through networking and advocacy and by increasing public awareness of the romance genre." Relevant works must be themed around the development of a romantic relationship between two people, and there must be a happy ending. As well as published authors, those with complete but unpublished manuscripts are eligible for membership. Organization Authors are eligible to join the RWA if they are actively pursuing a career writing romance novels. According to the RWA, the main plot of a romance novel must revolve around the two people as they develop romantic love for each other and work to build a relationship together. Both the conflict and the climax of the novel should be directly related to that core theme of developing a romantic relationship, although the novel can also contain sub ...

Rot Weiss Ahlen
Rot Weiss Ahlen is a German football club based in Ahlen, North Rhine-Westphalia. Until 2006 the club was known as ''LR Ahlen'' for its major sponsor, but underwent a name change when the sponsor withdrew its support after the team was relegated to the Regionalliga (III) in that year. History The club has its roots in the local sides of the early 1900s formed by coalminers who played pickup games after work. In 1917, ''Freie Sportclub Union (FSCU) Ahlen'' was founded and became one of the region's best known teams, playing in the second tier leagues of the time. The rise of the Third Reich saw the club disbanded as over three-quarters of its members were foreigners making the side politically unpalatable to the regime. A new club, ''Tus Germania Ahlen'', was formed in 1933. This side merged with the strong local club ''Wacker Ahlen'' to create the town's largest sports association. After World War II attempts to rebuild local teams failed until members of eight pre-war clubs c ...

Royal West Of England Academy
The Royal West of England Academy (RWA) is Bristol's oldest art gallery, located in Clifton, Bristol, near the junction of Queens Road and Whiteladies Road. Situated in a Grade 2* listed building, it hosts five galleries and an exhibition programme that celebrates the best of historic and contemporary British art. Elected Royal West of England Academicians use the post-nominal RWA. History The Royal West of England Academy was the first art gallery to be established in Bristol, and is one of the longest-running regional galleries and art schools in the UK. Its foundation was initiated by the extraordinary Ellen Sharples, who secured funding from benefactors including Isambard Kingdom Brunel and Prince Albert, and the building was ultimately financed by a bequest of £2,000 from her will in 1849. At first, the core of the Academy was a well-known group of artists in Bristol, known as the Bristol Society of Artists, who were mostly landscape painters, and many, such as William ...

Royal West Academy
Royal West Academy (commonly referred to as Royal West or RWA; french: Académie Royal West) is a public alternative English-speaking Quebecker, anglophone secondary school in Montreal West, Quebec. Royal West has limited enrollment, and prospective students are only admitted after an entrance examination and interview. Royal West Academy is part of the English Montreal School Board (EMSB). History The grounds where Royal West is now located once belong to the Aberdeen School of Coteau Saint-Pierre, founded in 1894. It was renamed Montreal West High School in 1921. Ten years later, in 1931, the building was demolished and a larger building was built in its place. Between 1951 and 1959 an extension to the main structure was built to make way for an elementary school. The extension is referred to as the west wing. In 1980, the elementary school was closed because of poor enrollment. The Royal Vale elementary school moved in, but was closed as well. In 1983, the Royal Vale French i ...

Reaction Wheel
A reaction wheel (RW) is used primarily by spacecraft for three-axis attitude control, and does not require rockets or external applicators of torque. They provide a high pointing accuracy, and are particularly useful when the spacecraft must be rotated by very small amounts, such as keeping a telescope pointed at a star. A reaction wheel is sometimes operated as (and referred to as) a momentum wheel, by operating it at a constant (or near-constant) rotation speed, to provide a satellite with a large amount of stored angular momentum. Doing so alters the spacecraft's rotational dynamics so that disturbance torques perpendicular to one axis of the satellite (the axis parallel to the wheel's spin axis) do not result directly in spacecraft angular motion about the same axis as the disturbance torque; instead, they result in (generally smaller) angular motion (precession) of that spacecraft axis about a perpendicular axis. This has the effect of tending to stabilize that spacecraft ax ...

Right-wing Authoritarianism
In psychology, the right-wing authoritarian (RWA) is a personality type that describes somebody who is highly submissive to their authority figures, acts aggressively in the name of said authorities, and is conformist in thought and behavior. The prevalence of this personality type in a population varies from culture to culture, as a person's upbringing and education play a strong role in determining whether somebody develops this sort of personality. The right-wing authoritarian personality was defined by Bob Altemeyer as a refinement of the research of Theodor Adorno. Adorno was the first to propose the existence of an authoritarian personality as part of an attempt to explain the rise of fascism and the Holocaust, but his theory fell into disfavor because it was based on Freudian pseudo-science. Altemeyer nonetheless felt that Adorno was on to something, and so developed a more scientifically rigorous theory. The RWA scale was designed to measure authoritarianism in North Ame ...

Rotating Wave Approximation
The rotating-wave approximation is an approximation used in atom optics and magnetic resonance. In this approximation, terms in a Hamiltonian that oscillate rapidly are neglected. This is a valid approximation when the applied electromagnetic radiation is near resonance with an atomic transition, and the intensity is low. Explicitly, terms in the Hamiltonians that oscillate with frequencies \omega_L + \omega_0 are neglected, while terms that oscillate with frequencies \omega_L - \omega_0 are kept, where \omega_L is the light frequency, and \omega_0 is a transition frequency. The name of the approximation stems from the form of the Hamiltonian in the interaction picture, as shown below. By switching to this picture the evolution of an atom due to the corresponding atomic Hamiltonian is absorbed into the system ket, leaving only the evolution due to the interaction of the atom with the light field to consider. It is in this picture that the rapidly oscillating terms mentioned previ ...

Routing And Wavelength Assignment
The routing and wavelength assignment (RWA) problem is an optical networking problem with the goal of maximizing the number of optical connections. Definition The general objective of the RWA problem is to maximize the number of established connections. Each connection request must be given a route and wavelength. The wavelength must be consistent for the entire path, unless the usage of wavelength converters is assumed. Two connections requests can share the same optical link, provided a different wavelength is used. The RWA problem can be formally defined in an integer linear program (ILP). The ILP formulation given here is taken from. Maximize: :C_0(\rho,q) = \sum_^ m_i subject to :m_i \geq 0, integer, i = 1, 2, ..., N_ :c_ \in , i = 1, 2, ..., P, j = 1, 2, ..., W :C^TB \leq l_ :m \leq 1_WC^TA :m_i \leq q_i\rho, i = 1, 2, ..., N_ N_ is the number of source-destination pairs, while m_i is the number of connections established for each source-destination pair. L is the num ...
