RTÉ Young People's Programming
RTÉ Young People's Programming ( ga, Cláracha do Dhaoine Óga RTÉ), also known as RTÉ Kids, is a division of Raidió Teilifís Éireann and provides a range of national and international children's programming for RTÉ television, radio and online and also for the independent Irish language broadcaster TG4. It broadcasts in English and Irish. The division is based at the RTÉ Television Centre in Donnybrook, Dublin. The department covers both Radio, Online and Television output for young people across RTÉ. Up to 2016 RTÉ's Young People's Programming Department produced and commissioned content. Independent productions consists largely of animations, live action and entertainment programming, while much of the RTÉ's own produced children's content was studio based. In 2016 RTÉ began cutting funding to Young People's Programming, this resulted in RTÉ axing all in-house productions for children, with no increases to funding for independent producers. RTÉ Television Centre
The RTÉ Television Centre is a television studio building which is owned by Ireland's national public service broadcaster Raidió Teilifís Éireann. It is part of the RTÉ campus located at Donnybrook in South Dublin. The building houses the main production studios for RTÉ Television, the control rooms for all RTÉ's TV channels, and RTÉ's main newsroom. History When plans for an Irish national television station were developed in the late 1950s attention quickly turned to a suitable location for the new television studios and adjoining offices. By September 1959 a 25-acre area of land on the Stillorgan road in Donnybrook became the favoured site for the new television production centre. On 3 October 1960 the new Radio Éireann Authority signed a £500,000 contract for the construction of the television centre and offices at the proposed location. Dempsey's Den
''The Den'' was a long-running popular children's television strand of Ireland's public broadcaster Raidió Teilifís Éireann. First broadcast on 29 September 1986 on RTÉ1, it moved to Network 2 two years later. Initially a continuity strand for weekday afternoon programmes, ''The Den'' later expanded during the late 1990s and the 2000s until it became synonymous with RTÉ's children's output. At various times during its run, it was known as ''Dempsey's Den'', ''Den TV'' and ''Den2''. In mid-2010, RTÉ Television announced an overhaul of its children's output, with the launch of RTÉjr and TRTÉ. ''The Den'' aired for the last time on 19 September 2010. Derek Mooney
Derek James Mooney (born 4 March 1967) is an Irish radio and television presenter, as well as a radio producer. Until January 2015 he presented a weekday afternoon programme called '' Mooney'' on RTÉ Radio 1. He is the current executive producer across RTÉ Radio 1's nature and wildlife programming On television he has often presented game shows and talent contests: his presentation credits include ''Echo Island'', ''Gridlock'', ''Winning Streak'', the ill-fated ''Cabin Fever'', '' You're a Star'', '' The Big Money Game'', '' Fame: The Musical'', '' The Genealogy Roadshow'' and '' Who Knows Ireland Best?''. Custer's Last Stand-up
''Custer's Last Stand-Up'' is a BBC/ RTÉ co-production television series which won the BAFTA for best British Children's Series in 2001. Among the actors who appeared in the series were George McMahon, Ciaran Nolan, Elaine Symons, Brian James Roche, Tom Hopkins and Deirdre Monaghan. The show ran for two series of 13 episodes each and was created by Gail Renard who wrote the majority of the episodes. The directors of the show were Graeme Harper, Dearbhla Walsh and Dez McCarthy. Raymond Michael D'Arcy (born 1 September 1964) is an Irish television and radio presenter currently on his second stint at state broadcaster Raidió Teilifís Éireann (RTÉ). Ian Dempsey
Ian Dempsey (born 16 January 1961) is an Irish presenter of television and breakfast radio. He is the long-running presenter of the breakfast show on Today FM, self-titled '' The Ian Dempsey Breakfast Show'', which runs from 6-9 am each weekday. He has won several major awards for his programmes and was the Republic of Ireland's tenth most-listened-to broadcaster in 2007. Pat Ingoldsby
Pat Ingoldsby (born 25 August 1942 in Malahide, Dublin, Ireland) is an Irish poet and TV presenter. ''Anything Goes'' was a "youth oriented" television series of Ireland's public broadcaster Raidió Teilifís Éireann. It first aired on 4 October 1980 and was on the RTÉ1 channel. It lasted for six seasons and finished in 1986. Overview The presenters of the show were Mary FitzGerald, Dave HeffernanAonghus McAnally and Kathy Parke. ''Anything Goes's'' audience was aimed at children and teenagers. The content of the programme included music, visits from public figures, competitions, filmed items, and cartoons. There was also coverage of news and current issues relevant to children. A popular aspect of the series was an arts and crafts "Make and Do" segment where presenter Mary FitzGerald demonstrated simple cooking and crafts. Echo Island
''Echo Island'' is an Irish television programme for children and young adults, shown on RTÉ Network 2. It was shown at 17:00 during '' The Den'', after which programmes like ''The Legend of the Hidden City'' would air. The show effectively took over from ''Jo Maxi'', which had been aimed at the teenaged youth of Ireland. Birth ''Echo Island'' began broadcasting in 1994 with two episodes a week. This was extended to four episodes the following year with two of these being Irish language editions. The series ran for six seasons; in later years it proved a useful showcase for some of the best young rock bands in Ireland. Many of the presenters were chosen for their bilingualism, including Dara Ó Briain. A similar format show called ''Stream'' replaced it, splitting up each day with a different topic such as Gaming, Sports and other types of activities and did away with ''Echo Islands "Make and Do" and "Pet" sections.
