RTL 5 is a Dutch free-to-cable television channel that was launched on 2 October 1993. It mainly broadcasts American films and hit series but also reality shows, comedy, travel, international shows and local productions including ''Expeditie Robinson'', ''Holland's Next Top Model'' & '' Benelux' Next Top Model'', Dutch versions of ''America's Next Top Model'', '' Dutch version of ''Project Catwalk'''', ''So You Think You Can Dance'' and a Dutch version of ITV's '' Take Me Out''. Officially RTL 5 - along with RTL 4, RTL 7 and RTL 8 - is headquartered in Hilversum, broadcasting with a Luxembourg TV license. 1080i
1080i (also known as Full HD or BT.709) is a combination of frame resolution and scan type. 1080i is used in high-definition television (HDTV) and high-definition video. The number "1080" refers to the number of horizontal lines on the screen. The "i" is an abbreviation for "interlaced"; this indicates that only the even lines, then the odd lines of each frame (each image called a video field) are drawn alternately, so that only half the number of actual image frames are used to produce video. A related display resolution is 1080p, which also has 1080 lines of resolution; the "p" refers to progressive scan, which indicates that the lines of resolution for each frame are "drawn" on the screen in sequence. Digitenne is the Dutch digital terrestrial television platform. It is owned by KPN. Digitenne uses the DVB-T2 standard. The national public television channels NPO 1, NPO 2, NPO 3 and the regional public television channels are free-to-air. For all other television channels a subscription is required. ''So You Think You Can Dance'' is a joint Belgian-Dutch dance competition show broadcast on RTL 5 and vtm television stations. The first season was broadcast only in the Netherlands, whereas starting with season 2, the show became a joint Belgian-Dutch production. The show premiered on 4 September 2008 in the Netherlands and expanded to broadcasting in Flanders for its second season on 1 September 2009. ''Benelux' Next Top Model'' was a Dutch-language reality television show that aired in Belgium and the Netherlands. The show was a merge between ''Holland's Next Top Model'', and the Belgian television series '' Topmodel''. The first season premiered in September 2009, and was hosted by Dutch writer and former model Daphne Deckers. Despite the Benelux reference in the title, the program was not broadcast in Luxembourg or Wallonia. On May 9, 2011 it was announced that ''Benelux' Next Top Model'' would not be renewed for a third season. The Dutch production team would continue with a domestic fifth season in the Netherlands, again under the title of ''Holland's Next Top Model''. ''Expeditie Robinson'' is a popular reality television program in the Netherlands and Flanders (Belgium) that debuted in 2000 and based on a format first shown by Swedish television in 1997.
