ROC La Voulte-Valence ( French: ''Rhône ovalie club La Voulte-Valence'') is a French rugby union club based in Valence, Drôme and playing home matches in Valence and La Voulte-sur-Rhône in the adjacent department of Ardèche. The team currently competes in Fédérale 1, the third division of French rugby. The club was established in 2010 by a merger of Valence Sportif, founded in 1905, and La Voulte Sportif, founded in 1907. Its main stadium is Valence's former ground of Stade Georges-Pompidou, with La Voulte's former home of Stade Battandier-Lukowiak as a secondary home. They play in black and white. Valence, Drôme
Valence (, ; oc, Valença ) is a commune in southeastern France, the prefecture of the Drôme department and within the Auvergne-Rhône-Alpes region. It is situated on the left bank of the Rhône, about south of Lyon, along the railway line that runs from Paris to Marseille. It is the eighth-largest city in the region by its population and has 64,726 registered inhabitants in 2018 (132,556 inhabitants in the urban area (''unité urbaine''). Sébastien Chabal (born 8 December 1977) is a French former rugby union player. He played number eight and lock for Bourgoin (1998–2004), Sale Sharks (2004–2009), Racing Métro 92 Paris (2009 – February 2012), and for the French national team. Chabal played professionally for 16 years and won the English Premiership with Sale, and the 2007 Six Nations Championship with France. He also finished in fourth place at the 2007 Rugby World Cup. Élie Cester (27 July 1942 - 3 January 2017) was a French rugby union player who played at lock for the France national rugby union team. Early life and career Élie Cester was born on July 27, 1942, in L'Isle-Jourdain, France. Cester earned his first cap for the France national rugby union team on January 15, 1966. He made a total of 35 official appearances for the French national team between 1966 and 1974. He captained the team on three occasions. Roques was part of the French national team that won the Five Nations Championship in 1967, 1968, 1970 (tied with Wales) and 1973. Rugby Pro D2, also known as Pro D2 is the second tier of rugby union club competition division in France. It is operated by Ligue Nationale de Rugby (LNR) which also runs the division directly above, the first division Top 14. Rugby Pro D2 was introduced in 2000. It is the world's best supported second tier rugby union league. Season structure There is relegation and promotion between both the Top 14 and Fédérale 1, the third-level competition. The top club at the end of the season is automatically promoted to the Top 14; through the 2016–17 season, the 2nd through 5th place teams play each other for the second promotion place. The bottom two are automatically relegated to Fédérale 1. The bottom two clubs of the Top 14 and the top two of Fédérale 1 then enter the Rugby Pro D2 for the next season.
