Battle Of Culloden
The Battle of Culloden (; gd, Blàr Chùil Lodair) was the final confrontation of the Jacobite rising of 1745. On 16 April 1746, the Jacobite army of Charles Edward Stuart was decisively defeated by a British government force under Prince William Augustus, Duke of Cumberland, on Drummossie Moor near Inverness in the Scottish Highlands. It was the last pitched battle fought on British soil. Charles was the eldest son of James Stuart, the exiled Stuart claimant to the British throne. Believing there was support for a Stuart restoration in both Scotland and England, he landed in Scotland in July 1745: raising an army of Scots Jacobite supporters, he took Edinburgh by September, and defeated a British government force at Prestonpans. Gareth Hoskins
Gareth Dale Hoskins OBE (15 April 1967 – 9 January 2016) was a Scottish architect. Biography Born in Edinburgh on 15 April 1967, Hoskins attended George Watson’s College and the Mackintosh School of Architecture at the Glasgow School of Art. He joined Penoyre & Prasad in 1992 before starting his own firm in 1998. In 2000, ''Building Design'' gave Hoskins its Young Architect of the Year Award. In 2005 he was appointed to the Board of Architecture + Design Scotland where he served as Scottish Healthcare Design Champion for 4 years from 2006. He was named UK Architect of the Year in 2006 and Scottish Architect of the Year three years later. In 2010, he was made an Officer of the Order of the British Empire for services to architecture. Personal Hoskins was married, had two children and lived in Helensburgh. Castlemilk House
Castlemilk House was a country house located in what is now the Castlemilk district of Glasgow, Scotland. The house was the ancestral home of the Stirling-Stuart family and was built around the 15th-century Cassiltoun Tower during the 18th and 19th centuries. The house and Castlemilk Estate were purchased by Glasgow Corporation in 1938, with the house serving as a children's home until it was closed in 1969 and demolished that year. The Informatics Forum is a major building on the Central Area campus of the University of Edinburgh. Completed in 2008, it houses the research institutes of the university's School of Informatics. Design The Forum is designed by Bennetts Associates with Reiach and Hall, architects, and Buro Happold, engineers. The architects' brief was to provide a "forum for interaction" that will foster synergies among the 500 researchers in Informatics: Artificial Intelligence, Cognitive Science, Computer Science, and Systems Biology, who have been brought together, under one roof, by this development. AMA Studio (formerly Allan Murray Architects) is an Edinburgh, Scotland based practice of award-winning Architects and Urbanists. Formed in , it has a substantial body of work in the Scottish capital. Linlithgow Burgh Halls is a municipal structure at The Cross, Linlithgow, Scotland. The complex includes the Town House, the former headquarters of Linlithgow Burgh Council, which is a Category A listed building. and the Old County Hall, the former headquarters of West Lothian County Council, which is a Category B listed building. ''The Scotsman Steps'' (also known as ''Work No. 1059'') is a permanent installation by British artist Martin Creed in Edinburgh, Scotland. History The Scotsman Steps were built between 1899 and 1902 by architects Dunn & Findlay as part of the construction of the building housing ''The Scotsman'' newspaper and, since 2001, The Scotsman Hotel. The steps were built in a French style as a spiral staircase within an enclosed octagonal tower; the tower was decorated with wrought iron grilles and glazed tiles in the interior. Historically considered a road, the 104 steps form a pedestrian link between the North Bridge and Waverley Station's Market Street entrance.
