RFU Championship XV
The RFU Championship XV is an invitational rugby union team composed of English qualified players from the second tier competition, the RFU Championship. The team was originally formed for a one–off match against a strong Māori All Blacks team as part of the 2012 end-of-year rugby union tests. However, on 10 September 2014, it was announced that the team will be re-formed for an uncapped match against Canada for the 2014 end-of-year rugby union internationals. The 2014 fixture will see Martin Haag, head coach of Nottingham, take over from Mike Rayer, Bedford Blues head coach, who led the XV side to a 52–21 loss in the Māori All Blacks fixture. On that occasion, the match was played on 17 November 2012 at Castle Park, as part of the 2012 Māori All Blacks tour of United Kingdom, where the Māori side won two from three matches; 24–32 loss to Leicester Tigers, 52–21 win over RFU Championship XV and finally a 32–19 win over the XV's next opponent Canada. RFU Championship
The RFU Championship is an English rugby union competition comprising twelve clubs. It is the second level of men’s English rugby and is played by both professional and semi-professional players. The competition has existed since 1987, when English clubs were first organised into leagues. Organisation and format The Championship is governed by the Rugby Football Union (RFU). The current competition format is a double round-robin tournament, where teams play each other home and away. The 2021-22 season had no playoff phase, and no team was promoted to the Premiership as no team met the minimum standards criteria. James Phillips (rugby Union)
James Phillips (born 27 September 1987 in England) is a rugby union player for Sale Sharks in the Aviva Premiership. He plays as a back row or second row. Phillips made his professional debut for Bristol against Sale Sharks in the 2007/08 season and has represented England at U16s and U18s level. In January 2010, he extended his contract with Bristol. However, he signed for Exeter in June 2010, following Bristol's loss (to Exeter) in the Championship final. He re-signed for Bristol in 2015, and helped them win promotion to the Aviva Premiership in May 2016. Phillips chose to leave during the 2017-18 close season to join Bath. James Percival (rugby Union)
James Percival (born 9 November 1983) is a rugby union player for Worcester Warriors in the RFU Championship after signing from Harlequins in the Summer of 2011. He primarily plays in the second-row. Percival started out at Worcester Warriors, gaining International recognition as a member of Welsh Schools Under 18's and the England Under 21 team that won the 2004 Six Nations Grand Slam. He joined Northampton Saints in the summer of 2005, however his progress was hampered after suffering a broken neck in a friendly game against Munster. The Cornish Pirates ( kw, An Vorladron Gernewek) are a professional rugby union team who play in the Championship, the second level of the English rugby union pyramid, and are the premier Cornish rugby club. Lock (rugby Union)
In the game of rugby union, there are 15 players on each team, comprising eight forwards (wearing jerseys numbered 1–8) and seven backs (numbered 9–15). In addition, there may be up to eight replacement players "on the bench", numbered 16–23. Players are not restricted to a single position, although they generally specialise in just one or two that suit their skills and body types. Players that play multiple positions are called "utility players". Forwards compete for the ball in scrums and Line-out (rugby union), line-outs and are generally bigger and stronger than the backs. Darren Barry (born 2 February 1990) is an English rugby union player who plays for Vannes in the Pro D2. Club career Barry was part of Bristol academy system where he enjoyed a loan spell at Clifton near Bristol. Barry made his senior debut when they beat Cornish Pirates 60-15 at Camborne in May 2010 and made his 50th appearance for Bristol winning against the Pirates won 50-22 in the British and Irish Cup at the Mennaye Field in September 2011.
