Association football club RB Leipzig-affiliated teams include a reserve team, women's team, and junior and academy teams. Reserve team History The first reserve team was formed out of the second team of SSV Markranstädt. Its inaugural season was 2009–10 in the Bezirksliga Leipzig. The team finished in first place and won promotion to the 2010–11 Sachsenliga. As part of the deal with SSV Markranstädt, the team returned to SSV Markranstädt after the 2009–10 season, and played the 2010–11 Sachsenliga as their new first team. In order to replace the reserve team and to avoid having to begin with its reserve team from the bottom of the German football league system, RB Leipzig partnered with ESV Delitzsch from Delitzsch in northwest Saxony. RB Leipzig adopted the first team of ESV Delitzsch as its new reserve team and purchased its playing right for Berzirksliga Leipzig. The Bezirksliga ( en, County League) is commonly a medium set of amateur divisions set at steps 7, 8 or 9 in the German football league system. Structure Depending on the structural organisation within each of the 21 state football associations of the German Football Association, the Bezirksliga either falls under the state association's jurisdiction or one of its subsidiary county football associations that organise their divisions mostly following the borders of the corresponding government districts. In the league pyramid, the Bezirksliga always ranks below the superior state association's divisions, typically being the Verbandsliga and the Landesliga but ahead of the district associations' Kreisliga. The Frauen-Bundesliga (German for ''Women's Federal League''), currently known as the FLYERALARM Frauen-Bundesliga for sponsorship reasons, is the top level of league competition for women's association football in Germany. In 1990 the German Football Association (DFB) created the German Women's Bundesliga, based on the model of the men's Bundesliga. It was first played with north and south divisions, but in 1997 the groups were merged to form a uniform league. The league currently consists of twelve teams and the seasons usually last from late summer to the end of spring with a break in the winter. Despite the league's competitiveness, it has been semi-professional. VfL Wolfsburg has won the most championships. FC Carl Zeiss Jena is a German women's football club from Jena, Thuringia. The club currently plays in the Bundesliga, the highest level of women's football in Germany. Carl Zeiss Jena played regional women's football since 2016/17 but became more prominent, when it merged with FF USV Jena in 2020.
