Route The R700's northern terminus is a junction with the R59 route at Hoopstad (just south of the R59's Vet River Bridge; which provides access to the town centre). It begins by running south-south-east for 53 kilometres to the town of Bultfontein, where it meets the south-western terminus of the R710 route and continues southwards via a right turn. It bypasses Bultfontein to the west and reaches a junction with the R708 route. The R708 joins the R700 for 1.8 km southwards before the R708 becomes its own road eastwards while the R700 remains facing southwards. From Bultfontein, the R700 heads southwards for 46 kilometres to reach a junction with the R703 route near the town of Soutpan. The N1 is a national route in South Africa that runs from Cape Town through Bloemfontein, Johannesburg, Pretoria and Polokwane to Beit Bridge on the border with Zimbabwe. It forms the first section of the famed Cape to Cairo Road. Prior to 1970, the N1 designation was applied to the route from Beit Bridge to Colesberg and then along the current N9 to George. R703 Road (South Africa)
The R703 is a Regional Route in South Africa. Route Its western terminus is the R64 just east of Dealesville. From there, it heads east to the town of Soutpan. Just outside Soutpan, it crosses the R700 at a staggered intersection. Continuing east, it reaches Brandfort, where it crosses the R30. From Brandfort, the route initially heads east, reaching a t-junction. The R703 continues along the intersecting road, heading south-east, while the other road is unsigned and heads to Winburg. The south-eastern R703 crosses the N1 to reach Verkeerdevlei. Leaving the town, it maintains its direction coming to Excelsior. Here it forms a staggered intersection with the R709 and leaves the town heading east. The R708 is a Regional Route in South Africa that connects Jan Kempdorp in the Northern Cape with Clocolan in the Free State via Christiana, Hertzogville, Bultfontein, Theunissen, Winburg and Marquard. Route North West Its north-western terminus is the N18 at Jan Kempdorp, Northern Cape. It heads eastwards, immediately crossing into the North West, to meet the R506 at Christiana. From that intersection, it flies over the N12, and becomes Voortrekker Street in the town centre and leaves to the south-east, crossing the Vaal River to enter the Free State. Vet River
The Vet River ( af, Vetrivier) is a westward-flowing tributary of the Vaal River in central South Africa. Its sources are between Marquard and Clocolan and the Vet River flows roughly northwestwards to meet the Vaal at the Bloemhof Dam near Hoopstad. Erfenis Dam was built on this river in order to provide water for the town of Theunissen. Hoopstad
The key town of Hoopstad is situated at the intersection of the R34, R59 & R700 in the Free State Province. This area is considered to be the richest maize-producing district in South Africa. The town is located near the Bloemhof Dam which is situated on the Vaal River. The Sandveld Nature Reserve is positioned alongside the Bloemhof Dam. Hopetown and Hoopstad are two different towns and are often confused. History and activities The town of Hoopstad was initially founded in 1876 and named Hauptstad after Mr Haupt, a surveyor. The translation of Hauptstad into Afrikaans means Capital, which it clearly wasn’t and the town was therefore renamed Hoopstad. R59 Road (South Africa)
The R59 is a provincial route in South Africa that connects Hertzogville with Alberton (south-east of Johannesburg) via Bothaville, Parys and Vereeniging. The R59 is a freeway from the R57 Junction in Sasolburg until the Alberton N12 Reading Interchange, signposted as the Sybrand van Niekerk Freeway. Route Free State The R59 begins at a t-junction with the R64 about 18 kilometres west of Dealesville. It heads north for 61 kilometres to the town of Hertzogville, where it meets the R708 at a t-junction next to the Palmietpan and they become co-signed northwards. North of the town, the R59 becomes its own road north-east, heading for 50 kilometres to Hoopstad where on the southerly outskirts, before the Vet River, it meets the northern terminus of the R700 at a t-junction and turns northwards.
