R103 Road (South Africa)
The R103 is a Regional Route in South Africa that is the designation for some of the old sections of roads that were previously the N3, prior to upgrading. It only has 3 sections, from Hillcrest to Ladysmith, from Warden to Villiers and from Heidelberg to Johannesburg. Route Kwazulu-Natal Its first section begins as a junction with the M13 Highway in Hillcrest, a town 30 km north-west of Durban. The R103 begins as the Old Main Road and leaves Hillcrest in a roughly north-west direction and enters Cato Ridge from the east. In Cato Ridge, the road crosses the N3 at the 53 exit and then follows the south side of the N3, leaving the eThekwini Metropolitan Municipality, before recrossing the N3 freeway at Camperdown. Mooi River (town)
Mooi River ( af, Mooirivier) is a small town situated at 1,389m above sea level and 160km from the coast in KwaZulu-Natal, South Africa. The first European settlement in the area was at Mooi River Drift in 1852. This was formally named Weston in 1866 after the first Governor of Natal, Martin West. History In 1879, an Irishman named Alexander Lawrence purchased the farm "Grantleigh" upstream from Weston, on the banks of the Mooi River. "Mooirivier" is Afrikaans for "pretty river". In 1884, the railway line from Durban, on the coast, to Johannesburg, in the interior, reached the area and was built across Alexander Lawrence's land. He subsequently laid out and establish the village of Lawrenceville on his farm "Grantleigh" and so is known as "The Father of Mooi River". Greytown, KwaZulu-Natal
Greytown is a town situated on the banks of a tributary of the Umvoti River in a richly fertile timber-producing area of KwaZulu-Natal, South Africa. History Greytown was established in the 1850s and named after the governor of the Cape Colony Sir George Edward Grey who later became Premier of New Zealand. A Lutheran church was built in 1854. A church bell which was brought to the town for the Dutch Reformed Church in 1861 to summon worshipers. The Dutch and English congregations were the centre of a series of theological arguments and the church bell was stolen and buried, only to be found 74 years later upon the construction of some cottages near the old church. A strikingly designed Town Hall was opened in 1904. In 1906 following a poll tax and other oppressive measures imposed on the Zulus, the Bambatha Rebellion took place. The R74 is a provincial route in South Africa that connects Harrismith with KwaDukuza (previously Stanger) on the coast, via Oliviershoek Pass, Bergville, Winterton, Colenso, Weenen and Greytown. Route The R74 begins in Harrismith, Free State, at a t-junction with the N5 National Route south of the town centre. It begins by going southwards for 8 kilometres to meet the eastern terminus of the R712 road, which connects to Phuthaditjhaba. The R74 continues south-south-east for 64 kilometres, crossing into the KwaZulu-Natal Province, bypassing the Woodstock Dam, to enter the town of Bergville, where it meets the western terminus of the R616 road.
