R55 Route
The R55 is a north-south provincial route in Gauteng, South Africa that connects Sandton with Pretoria. It passes Woodmead, Kyalami, Olievenhoutbosch, Heuweloord, Sunderland Ridge, Erasmia, Laudium/Claudius, West Park, the Daspoort Tunnel and Danville. It connects with the M1, N14, and R80 highways. It is also designated as the ''P66-1'' and ''K71'' (newly constructed dual carriageway sections) by the Gauteng Provincial Government. Route The southern terminus of R55 begins as a t-junction with the M11/R101 Pretoria Main Road. It then crosses and interchanges the M1 De Villiers Graaff freeway/Ben Schoeman Highway as it heads northwards through Woodmead. Daspoort Tunnel
The Ollie Deneyschen Tunnel, usually called the Daspoort Tunnel is a road tunnel in Pretoria, South Africa. It connects the suburbs of Claremont and Danville. The R564 is a Regional Route in Gauteng, South Africa. Its entire length is now within the metropolis of Johannesburg, connecting Roodepoort with Buccleuch. Route Its south-western end is a junction with the R41 in Roodepoort, at the southern part of the Florida suburb. It goes northwards through Florida as Westlake Road, meeting the R24 (Albertina SIsulu Road) at the next junction and bypassing Florida Lake, to reach a junction with Clarendon Drive, where it becomes Clarendon Drive westwards. N1 Western Bypass (South Africa)
The Western Bypass is a section of the N1 and the Johannesburg Ring Road located in the city of Johannesburg, South Africa. Known at the time as the ''Concrete Highway'', the freeway was initially opened in 1975 as a route to avoid the city centre of Johannesburg and to provide access to the western areas of the Witwatersrand. From the south, the Western Bypass begins at the Diepkloof Interchange in Soweto, where it splits from the N12 freeway and ends at the Buccleuch Interchange, where it merges with the N3 Eastern Bypass, M1 South and N1 Ben Schoeman freeways. The Western Bypass is the longest section of the Johannesburg Ring Road. The freeway is mostly four lanes wide in either direction, but fans out into six lanes between Rivonia and Buccleuch, where there is heavy traffic moving north towards Pretoria. The N1 is a national route in South Africa that runs from Cape Town through Bloemfontein, Johannesburg, Pretoria and Polokwane to Beit Bridge on the border with Zimbabwe. It forms the first section of the famed Cape to Cairo Road. Prior to 1970, the N1 designation was applied to the route from Beit Bridge to Colesberg and then along the current N9 to George. Ben Schoeman Highway
The Ben Schoeman Freeway or Ben Schoeman Highway is the main freeway between Johannesburg and Pretoria, and consists of portions of the M1, N1, and N14. Opened in 1968, it is named after a former Minister of Transport Ben Schoeman, and is undoubtedly the busiest road in South Africa. Route The Ben Schoeman Highway begins under the designation of the M1, just north of the Corlett Drive exit, where the M1 is no longer under the maintenance of the Johannesburg Roads Agency. South of Corlett Drive, the M1 is known as the De Villiers Graaff Motorway. The M1 ends at the Buccleuch interchange with the N3 and N1 highways (Johannesburg Ring Road). The R101 is a Regional Route in South Africa that is the designation for some of the old sections of roads that were previously the N1, prior to upgrading. It only has 2 sections, from Bellville to Worcester and from Johannesburg to Polokwane. Western Cape The R101 starts in Bellville at the R102 running to the east parallel to the newer N1 freeway and is named 'Old Paarl Road'. It then goes through Brackenfell before entering Kraaifontein as 'Voortrekker Road'. At the intersection with Maroela Road in Kraaifontein East it is renamed 'Old Paarl Road' before entering the Cape Winelands. In the Cape Winelands it goes through Klapmuts and then enters Paarl. M11 is a major metropolitan route in Greater Johannesburg, South Africa. Historically it was part of the main road between Johannesburg and Pretoria; it now runs through the central and north-eastern parts of the city from Bassonia, passing through Johannesburg CBD and Hillbrow, passing through numerous older suburbs, including Houghton and Orange Grove and the Alexandra Township as Louis Botha Avenue, before it becomes the (R101) Old Pretoria Road and continues to Midrand and Pretoria. Dual Carriageway
A dual carriageway ( BE) or divided highway ( AE) is a class of highway with carriageways for traffic travelling in opposite directions separated by a central reservation (BrE) or median (AmE). Roads with two or more carriageways which are designed to higher standards with controlled access are generally classed as motorways, freeways, etc., rather than dual carriageways. The R80 is a provincial route in the City of Tshwane Metropolitan Municipality in Gauteng, South Africa that connects the Pretoria CBD with Mabopane and Soshanguve. It is a dual carriageway freeway, with 2 or 3 lanes in each direction at different points and is named the ''Mabopane Highway''. Route It starts at a t-junction with the M1 road of Tshwane in the suburb of Roseville (5km north of Pretoria CBD), heading westwards and meeting the R55 road.
