The R31 is a provincial route in the Northern Cape of South Africa that connects Kimberley with the Namibian border at Rietfontein via Kuruman and Hotazel. It is co-signed with the R360 between Askham and Andriesvale. Some sections of this road are gravel road. Route The R31 begins in Kimberley (Capital of the Northern Cape), south-west of the city centre, at an intersection with the N12 National Route. It begins by going north-north-west through the western area of Kimberley, meeting the R357 road at the next junction and the N8 National Route at the following junction. Barkly West
Barkly West is a town in the Northern Cape province of South Africa, situated on the north bank of the Vaal River west of Kimberley, Northern Cape, Kimberley. Establishment and naming Barkly West was the site of the first major diamond rush, in 1870, on the South African Diamond Fields, and was initially known as ''Klip Drift'' (sometimes written as Klipdrift). This Dutch name means "stony ford" and is a direct translation from a much older !Kora or Korana name, ''Ka-aub'' (or ''!a , aub'') - "stony (place along a) river". Briefly the Stafford Parker, Klipdrift Diggers' Republic was declared (the town assuming the name Parkerton after President Stafford Parker), before colonial rule was extended here. Windsorton is an agricultural town situated in the Vaalharts Irrigation Scheme on the banks of the Vaal River in the Northern Cape province of South Africa. The N12 is a national route in South Africa which runs from George through Beaufort West, Kimberley, Klerksdorp and Johannesburg to eMalahleni. It is the only other National Route after the N1 Route that connects the Western Cape Province with the Gauteng Province. Prior to 1971, the N12 from Johannesburg to Three Sisters was known as the N13. Route Summary The road starts in George in the Western Cape and ends in eMalahleni in Mpumalanga. The road runs roughly from south to north, however, once it passes Kimberley in the Northern Cape, it gradually turns eastward. Only the section between Soweto and eMalahleni is a limited access dual motorway. The section between Klerksdorp and Potchefstroom is a dual carriage highway. The R371 is a Regional Route in South Africa that connects Windsorton with the N14 to Kuruman and Vryburg. Route Its northern terminus at the N14 is in North West. It heads south to Reivilo. Here it meets the R372 from the east. The two continue south out of the town. After eight kilometres, the latter heads west again.
