R. Fred Lewis
Richard Fred Lewis (born December 14, 1947) is a retired American judge who was appointed to the Supreme Court of Florida on December 7, 1998, and served until January 8, 2019. While serving as chief justice, he founded Justice Teaching, an organization that now has over 3,900 volunteer lawyers and judges placed with and active in all Florida public schools, which enhances civic and law-related education through active programs in all levels of Florida schools. As chief justice, he also convened the first commission and statewide all-branch mental health summit which developed and proposed a unified and comprehensive plan to address the increasing problems with the intersection of mental illness and the justice system. Supreme Court Of Florida
The Supreme Court of Florida is the highest court in the U.S. state of Florida. It consists of seven members: the chief justice and six justices. Six members are chosen from six districts around the state to foster geographic diversity, and one is selected at large. The justices are appointed by the governor to set terms, which do not exceed six years. Immediately after appointment, the initial term is three years or less because the justices must appear on the ballot in the next general election that occurs more than one year after their appointment. Afterward, they serve six-year terms and remain in office if retained in the general election near the end of each term. Omicron Delta Kappa (), also known as The Circle and ODK, is one of the most prestigious honor societies in the United States with chapters at more than 300 college campuses.
