R. Clifford Levy
Robert Clifford Levy (October 19, 1905 – March 4, 1971) was a Canadian politician. He represented the electoral districts of Lunenburg County and Lunenburg East in the Nova Scotia House of Assembly from 1953 to 1959. He was a member of the Progressive Conservative Party of Nova Scotia. Early life Born in 1905 at Sherwood, Lunenburg County, Nova Scotia, Levy was educated at Dalhousie University, and Acadia University. Career Levy served as a town councillor and deputy mayor in Bridgewater, Nova Scotia from 1951 to 1952, and also served as president of the Nova Scotia Union of Municipalities. His son Bob Levy served as a New Democratic Party MLA in the 1980s. Levy ran as a Progressive Conservative candidate for the Lunenburg County riding in the 1941, 1945 1945 marked the end of World War II and the fall of Nazi Germany and the Empire of Japan. Sherwood is a community in the province of Nova Scotia, Canada, located in the Chester Municipal District. It is located at the crossroads of Highway 14 and the Old Annapolis Road near Card Lake. The community was established by disbanded British soldiers in 1816 led by Lt. John Evans who named it for his original home in Sherwood, England. Nova Scotia Municipal Councillors
A nova (plural novae or novas) is a transient astronomical event that causes the sudden appearance of a bright, apparently "new" star (hence the name "nova", which is Latin for "new") that slowly fades over weeks or months. Causes of the dramatic appearance of a nova vary, depending on the circumstances of the two progenitor stars. All observed novae involve white dwarfs in close binary systems. The main sub-classes of novae are classical novae, recurrent novae (RNe), and dwarf novae. They are all considered to be cataclysmic variable stars. Classical nova eruptions are the most common type. They are likely created in a close binary star system consisting of a white dwarf and either a main sequence, subgiant, or red giant star. Acadia (french: link=no, Acadie) was a colony of New France in northeastern North America which included parts of what are now the Maritime provinces, the Gaspé Peninsula and Maine to the Kennebec River. During much of the 17th and early 18th centuries, Norridgewock on the Kennebec River and Castine at the end of the Penobscot River were the southernmost settlements of Acadia. The French government specified land bordering the Atlantic coast, roughly between the 40th and 46th parallels. It was eventually divided into British colonies. The population of Acadia included the various indigenous First Nations that comprised the Wabanaki Confederacy, the Acadian people and other French settlers. Executive Council Of Nova Scotia
The Executive Council of Nova Scotia (informally and more commonly, the Cabinet of Nova Scotia) is the cabinet of the Canadian province of Nova Scotia. Almost always made up of members of the Nova Scotia House of Assembly, the Cabinet is similar in structure and role to the Canadian Cabinet while being smaller in size with different portfolios. The Lieutenant Governor of Nova Scotia, as representative of the King in Right of Nova Scotia, heads the council, and is referred to as the Governor-in-Council. Other members of the Cabinet, who advise, or minister, the viceroy, are selected by the Premier of Nova Scotia and appointed by the Lieutenant-Governor. Most cabinet ministers are the head of a ministry, but this is not always the case. 1956 Nova Scotia General Election
The 1956 Nova Scotia general election was held on 30 October 1956 to elect members of the 46th House of Assembly of the Province of Nova Scotia, Canada. It was won by the Progressive Conservatives led by Robert Stanfield. This was the first election the Liberals had fought after the death of their longtime charismatic leader, Angus L. Macdonald. Public Health Minister Harold Connolly became interim leader and premier following Macdonald's death in 1954, but was defeated at a leadership convention by Education Minister Henry Hicks. The convention exposed a sharp religious divide in the Liberal Party; Hicks was a Protestant and Connolly was a Catholic.
