R. B. Schlather
R. B. Schlather (born 1986) is an American stage director especially for opera who has worked internationally. He has directed world premieres of operas by Hertzberg, '' The Wake World'' and ''The Rose Elf''. He made his debut in Europe at Oper Frankfurt with Handel's '' Tamerlano'' in 2019, returning in 2021 for Cimarosa's ''L'Italiana in Londra'' and in 2022 for Puccini's ''Madama Butterfly''. Career Born in Cooperstown, New York, he received his first opera impressions when his parents took him to the Glimmerglass Festival nearby. He took part in the Boston Lyric Opera's Emerging Artist Program in the 2014/15 season. He directed '' In The Penal Colony'' by Philip Glass for the Boston Lyric Opera in 2015, and '' Doctor Atomic'' by John Adams at the Curtis Opera Theater in Philadelphia. Cooperstown, New York
Cooperstown is a village in and county seat of Otsego County, New York, United States. Most of the village lies within the town of Otsego, but some of the eastern part is in the town of Middlefield. Located at the foot of Otsego Lake in the Central New York Region, Cooperstown is approximately southwest of Albany, southeast of Syracuse and northwest of New York City. The population of the village was 1,852 as of the 2010 census. Cooperstown is the home of the National Baseball Hall of Fame and Museum. Green-Wood Cemetery is a cemetery in the western portion of Brooklyn, New York City. The cemetery is located between South Slope/ Greenwood Heights, Park Slope, Windsor Terrace, Borough Park, Kensington, and Sunset Park, and lies several blocks southwest of Prospect Park. Its boundaries include, among other streets, 20th Street to the northeast, Fifth Avenue to the northwest, 36th and 37th Streets to the southwest, Fort Hamilton Parkway to the south, and McDonald Avenue to the east. Green-Wood Cemetery was founded in 1838 as a rural cemetery, in a time of rapid urbanization when churchyards in New York City were becoming overcrowded. Fortepiano
A fortepiano , sometimes referred to as a pianoforte, is an early piano. In principle, the word "fortepiano" can designate any piano dating from the invention of the instrument by Bartolomeo Cristofori in 1698 up to the early 19th century. Most typically, however, it is used to refer to the mid-18th to early-19th century instruments for which composers of the Classical era, especially Haydn, Mozart, and the younger Beethoven wrote their piano music. Starting in Beethoven's time, the fortepiano began a period of steady evolution, culminating in the late 19th century with the modern grand. The earlier fortepiano became obsolete and was absent from the musical scene for many decades. Leo Hussain (born 1978) is a British conductor, who has mainly concentrated on opera. After tenures as music director of the Rouen Philharmonic Orchestra and the Salzburger Landestheater, he has worked freelance directing operas at major houses in Europe, such as Bizet's ''Carmen'' at the Royal Danish Theatre, Korngold's ''Die tote Stadt'' at the Théâtre du Capitole, and Weinberg's '' Die Passagierin'' at the Oper Frankfurt. Bockenheimer Depot
The Bockenheimer Depot is a former tram depot and main workshop of the Straßenbahn Frankfurt am Main, built around 1900. It is located in the Bockenheim quarter of Frankfurt. A listed monument, it now serves as a theatre venue of the Städtische Bühnen Frankfurt, mostly for Baroque and contemporary opera. History Before 1900, a wooden hall existed here for the cars of the horse-drawn trams. Since it was not suitable for the new electric trams, it was demolished in 1900 and replaced by the current building, with an added wooden structure to house the main workshop for the trams (''Hauptwerkstatt''). While Frankfurt was badly damaged by bombing in 1944, the main hall suffered only minor damage. After the war, the hall became too small for growing traffic.
