R.C. Mechelen
Racing Club Mechelen, or Racing Club Malines, was a Belgian professional basketball club from the city of Mechelen, Belgium. It was the men's basketball section of K.R.C. Mechelen. For sponsorship reasons, the club was also known as Maes Pils for a long time. History R.C. Mechelen folded and merged with Sobabee to create Racing Basket Antwerpen, in 1995. Until it was dissolved, the club's senior team was the most successful Belgian basketball club, after having won a total of 15 Belgian national championships, 9 Belgian Cups, and 5 Belgian SuperCups. Arena R.C. Mechelen played its home games in Mechelen, at the Winketkaai arena. Mechelen (; french: Malines ; traditional English name: MechlinMechelen has been known in English as ''Mechlin'', from where the adjective ''Mechlinian'' is derived. This name may still be used, especially in a traditional or historical context. Jim Fox (basketball, Born 1943)
James L. Fox (born April 7, 1943) is an American former professional basketball player. College career Fox was born in Atlanta and attended Gordon High School in Barnesville, Georgia. A 6'10" center, Fox played in junior college before enrolling his junior year at the University of South Carolina, playing in 13 games his junior season. He burst onto the scene his senior year, 1964–65, leading the Gamecocks in both scoring and rebounding. He averaged 17.8 points and 13.6 rebounds per game. Professional career He was drafted in the eighth round of the 1965 NBA draft by the Cincinnati Royals, but he elected to play professionally in Europe for two seasons. Fox joined the NBA's Royals for the 1967–68 season. In 31 games for the Royals, he averaged 3.2 points and 3.1 rebounds in eight minutes per game. Basketball is a team sport in which two teams, most commonly of five players each, opposing one another on a rectangular court, compete with the primary objective of shooting a basketball (approximately in diameter) through the defender's hoop (a basket in diameter mounted high to a backboard at each end of the court, while preventing the opposing team from shooting through their own hoop. Richard Raivio is an American former professional basketball player. Career In high school, Raivio played basketball and football for Benson in Portland, Oregon. In basketball, he was a member of three PIL (Portland Interscholastic League) championship teams and won two state championships. He was inducted into the Portland Interscholastic League Sports Hall of Fame. In his four-year college career at the University of Portland, Raivio scored 1668 points, which put him second on the all-time scoring list. He grabbed an all-time leading 910 rebounds and also ranked first in field goal percentage (.575) and free throws made (454). He was a three time All-West Coast Athletic Conference selection, the 1979 University of Portland Athlete of the Year and a Scholastic All-American in 1980. William Joseph Varner is a former American-Belgian professional basketball player. He played on several European clubs, including R.C. Mechelen. College career Varner played college basketball at the University of Notre Dame, with the Notre Dame Fighting Irish men's basketball, Notre Dame Fighting Irish. After, a poor performance at his first two college years, Varner has 10 points per game at his junior season, and 11,1 points average at his senior season. Éric Struelens (born 3 November 1969) is a former Belgian professional basketball player. Professional career Struelens won the Belgian Basketball League, Belgian League championship 7 times (6 with R.C. Mechelen (basketball), Racing Mechelen and 1 with Spirou Basket Charleroi, Spirou Charleroi) and the Belgian Basketball Cup, Belgian Cup 4 times (3 with Mechelen and 1 with Charleroi).
