R.B. Umali
R.B. Umali is an American filmmaker, skate videographer, and photographer based out of New York City. Filmmaking From the mid 1990s to the mid 2000s, Umali documented some of the finest New York City skateboarding while working for Zoo York, filming skaters such as Harold Hunter, Zered Bassett, and others. Umali filmed NYC skateboarding during and after attending film school at NYU. New York University
New York University (NYU) is a private research university in New York City. Skate Video
A skate video is a movie of or about skateboarding typically showing new tricks and a series of skateboarders in a montage set to music. History Released in 1965, the short film ''Skaterdater'' is credited as the first film to depict skateboarding and therefore the first ''skate video.'' In 2015, The Berrics campaigned for the film's acceptance into the National Film Registry. However, the Powell Peralta company is often credited as creating the first skate videos proper that were not a part of a fictional film or a documentary. Their first video, ''The Bones Brigade Video Show'' (1984), was expected to sell just 300 copies on VHS, but it sold 30,000. Harold Hunter
__NOTOC__ Harold Atkins Hunter (April 2, 1974 – February 17, 2006) was an American professional skateboarder and actor. He played the role of Harold in Larry Clark's 1995 film ''Kids''. Career Hunter was born in New York City and grew up in a housing project in the East Village with his two brothers. He became associated with a skate crew that hung out near Tompkins Square Park and Washington Square Park and was first sponsored by local skate shop called Skate NYC. Hunter first came to public attention in 1989 in a ''Thrasher'' magazine photo essay photographed by Charlie Samuels about the New York City skateboard scene. A goofy-footed skateboarder, Hunter was sponsored most notably by Zoo York. Later on he started Rock Star Bearings Co. Zered Bassett (born February 6, 1984) is a regular-footed professional skateboarder, living and working in New York City. Early life Born in Hyannis, Massachusetts, Bassett grew up in Chatham, Massachusetts. Skateboarding career Zered Bassett's first sponsor was Sixteen Skateboards. In 2003, Bassett appeared in the Zoo York Skateboard Company video ''City of Killers.'' In 2005, Bassett appeared in the DVS Shoes video "Skate More" and his co-directed film "Vicious Cycle" with RB Umali.
