R. Thyagarajan (industrialist)
R. Thyagarajan is an industrialist and founder of Chennai-based Shriram Group, a financial services conglomerate along with AVS Raja and T. Jeyaraman. He was awarded the Padma Bhushan, India's third highest civilian award, in 2013 in the field of trade and industry. Career He was born into a Brahmin family in Chennai. He holds a master's degree in Mathematics and master's degree in Mathematical Statistics from the Indian Statistical Institute. In 1961, he started his career as a Trainee Officer with New India Assurance Co. Limited, a general insurance company. Following his stint, in 1974, he set up Shriram Chits to start commercial financing business along with his friends. Padma Bhushan
The Padma Bhushan is the third-highest civilian award in the Republic of India, preceded by the Bharat Ratna and the Padma Vibhushan and followed by the Padma Shri. Aroor Venkatachari Srinivasaraghavan (AVS) Raja (born 23 March 1939 in Aroor, India) was one of the founders of Shriram Group of companies. He died on 14 April 2022 due to a lung infection. Biography Raja worked for Indian Railways before becoming co-founder of the Shriram along with R. Thyagrajan. His "Silver Medallion campaign" took the small company to national recognition.
