R. Thyagarajan (director)
R. Thyagarajan (died 1 July 2018) was an Indian writer, producer and director who worked in Tamil cinema. Film career Thyagarajan grew up in Pollachi in an extended family of 23 people, and had four sisters and four brothers. After studying in Pollachi, he went on to study chemistry in Peelamedu, with the intention of becoming a chemist. After his marriage in 1966, he began to work on the productions of his father-in-law, Sandow M. M. A. Chinnappa Thevar of Devar Films. He initially worked on the story-discussion panel teams in 1968 and progressed to the editing department. In the late 1960s, he worked as an assistant director and as an associate editor in the films, ''Haathi Mere Saathi (1971 film), Haathi Mere Saathi'' (1971) and ''Nalla Neram'' (1972). His first directorial venture was ''Vellikizhamai Viratham'' (1974), which portrayed the bond between the female protagonist and her deity, the Naga-Devatha. ''Thaayillamal Naan Illai'' () is a 1979 Indian Tamil-language film directed by R. Thyagarajan. The film stars Kamal Haasan, Sridevi, Major Sundarrajan and Jai Ganesh, with Rajinikanth and Nagesh in guest roles. It was released on 14 April 1979. Plot Raja, the son of a poor and widowed washerwoman, is well-talented in the arts from his childhood. A man who runs a drama troupe is impressed with Raja's talent and enlists him in this troupe and Raja's mother travels with the troupe as well. While performing in a zameen with the troupe, Raja meets and falls in love with the zamindar's daughter Bhuvana and they engage in a secretive romance assisted by Bhuvana's pet peacock Vadivelan. ''Thai Meethu Sathiyam'' () is a 1978 Indian Tamil-language Curry Western film directed by R. Thyagarajan and produced by Sandow M. M. A. Chinnappa Thevar. The film stars Rajinikanth and Sripriya, with Mohan Babu, Prabhakar, Suruli Rajan, Sundararajan, A. V. M. Rajan, S. A. Ashokan, Nagesh, Ambareesh, Jayamalini and Sukumari in supporting roles. It focuses on a shepherd who vows to avenge his parents by killing the murderers. The film was originally planned by Thevar in the late 1960s under the title ''Marupiravi'' () with M. G. Ramachandran intended to star; however, as Ramachandran was unwell at that time, as well as involved in a legal case, the film was shelved. Thevar later revived the project as ''Thai Meethu Sathiyam'', with Rajinikanth cast in the lead role as Ramachandran had retired from acting by then. ''Murugan Adimai'' () is a 1977 Indian Tamil-language devotional film starring R. Muthuraman, A. V. M. Rajan, K. R. Vijaya in lead roles with Nagesh, Major Sundarrajan and Thengai Srinivasan in supporting roles. The film was directed by R. Thyagarajan and released on 25 March 1977.
