Québec-Est (provincial Electoral District)
Québec-Est was a former provincial electoral district in the Capitale-Nationale region of Quebec, Canada. It was located in the general area of Quebec City. It elected members to the Legislative Assembly of Quebec. It was created for the 1867 Quebec general election, 1867 election. Its final election was in 1962 Quebec general election, 1962. It disappeared in the 1966 Quebec general election, 1966 election and its successor electoral district was Limoilou (provincial electoral district), Limoilou. Capitale-Nationale
Capitale-Nationale (; en, National Capital region) is one of the 17 List of Quebec regions, administrative regions of Quebec. It is anchored by the provincial capital, Quebec City, and is largely coextensive with that city's Communauté métropolitaine de Québec, metropolitan area. It has a land area of 18,797.45 km2. It reported a total resident population of 729,997 as of the Canada 2016 Census, with Quebec City having 73.7 percent of the total. Joseph Shehyn
Joseph Shehyn (November 9, 1829 – July 14, 1918) was a Canadian businessman and politician. Born in Quebec City, Quebec, the son of Edmond Sheehy and Marie (Flavie) Parent, Shehyn was raised by his maternal uncle after the death of his mother. He started working when he was 15 in a dry goods wholesalers. He later worked for the firm McCall, Shehyn and Company and would become the sole owner in 1891. He was elected as the Liberal candidate to the Legislative Assembly of Quebec for the electoral district of Québec-Est in the 1875 election defeating Pierre-Vincent Valin. He was re-elected by acclamation in 1878 and in the 1881, 1886, 1890, 1892, and 1897 elections. He was Provincial Treasurer from 1887 to 1891 in the cabinet of Honoré Mercier. Union Nationale (Quebec)
The Union nationale () was a conservative and nationalist provincial political party in Quebec, Canada, that identified with Québécois autonomism. It was created during the Great Depression and held power in Quebec from 1936 to 1939, and from 1944 to 1960 and from 1966 to 1970. The party was founded by Maurice Duplessis, who led it until his death in 1959. The party was often referred to in English as the National Union, especially when it was still an electoral force, by both the media and, at times, the party. History Origin The party started when the Action libérale nationale, a group of dissidents from the Quebec Liberal Party, formed a loose coalition with the Conservative Party of Quebec. In the 1935 Quebec election the two parties agreed to run only one candidate of either party in each riding. Oscar Drouin
Oscar Drouin (September 29, 1890 – July 16, 1953) was a politician in Quebec, Canada. Background He was born on September 29, 1890 in Quebec City. Member of the legislature Drouin won a by-election in 1928 and became the Liberal Member of the Legislative Assembly of Quebec for the district of Québec-Est. He was re-elected in the 1931 general election. He joined the newly formed Action libérale nationale (ALN) in 1934 and was re-elected as a candidate of that party in the 1935 election. After the ALN merged with the Conservative Party to form the Union Nationale, Drouin became Maurice Duplessis's campaign manager. He won re-election in the 1936 election and Duplessis became Premier.
