Quispamsis
Quispamsis (, sometimes shortened to ) is a Kings County suburb of Saint John, New Brunswick, located to the northeast in the lower Kennebecasis River valley. Its population was 18,768 as of the 2021 census. History The original inhabitants of the area were the Maliseet First Nation, part of the Wabenaki Confederacy. JP, The name, "Quispamsis" was translated from the Maliseet language and means, "little lake in the woods", the lake being present-day Ritchie Lake. Acadians, British pre-Loyalists and Loyalists settled in the area around 1783, with many receiving land grants along the Kennebecasis and Hammond Rivers. Quispamsis (electoral District)
Quispamsis is a provincial electoral district for the Legislative Assembly of New Brunswick, Canada. It was created as Kennebecasis in 1994 and included the town of Quispamsis and surrounding communities along the Kennebecasis River Valley. The district was reduced in size following the 2006 electoral redistribution such that only the Town of Quispamsis were within it so its name was changed to reflect that. Quispamsis means little lake in the woods. The district will remain relatively unchanged following the 2013 electoral redistribution, losing only some of its eastern polls to Hampton. Blaine Higgs
Blaine Myron Higgs (born March 1, 1954) is a Canadian politician who is the 34th and current premier of New Brunswick since 2018 and leader of the New Brunswick Progressive Conservative Party (PC Party) since 2016. Higgs graduated from the University of New Brunswick as an engineer. He then worked for 33 years for Irving Oil. Higgs ran for the leadership of the anti-bilingual New Brunswick Confederation of Regions Party in 1989. Higgs was first elected to the legislature in the 2010 provincial election and served as minister of finance from 2010 to 2014 in the government of David Alward. In the 2018 provincial election, Higgs narrowly carried the PCs to a minority government, despite losing the popular vote. Kennebecasis River
The Kennebecasis River ( ) is a tributary of the Saint John River in southern New Brunswick, Canada. The name Kennebecasis is thought to be derived from the Mi'kmaq "''Kenepekachiachk''", meaning "little long bay place." Rothesay is a civil parish in Kings County, New Brunswick, Canada. Prior to the 2023 governance reform, it comprised was divided for governence purposes between the towns of Rothesay and Quispamsis and the local service district of the parish of Rothesay, all of which were members of the Fundy Regional Service Commission (FRSC). Origin of name The parish may been named in honour of the Duke of Rothesay, one of the hereditary titles of the Prince of Wales, who visited the area in 1860 as part of his tour of North America. Rob Moore (politician)
Robert S. Moore (born May 14, 1974) is a Canadian lawyer, politician, and former Minister of State (ACOA) and Regional Minister for New Brunswick and Newfoundland and Labrador. Moore was first elected to parliament in the 2004 federal election serving until his defeat in the 2015 federal election. He was re-elected in the 2019 federal election for his former riding of Fundy Royal. Early life and career Moore was born in Gander, Newfoundland. He is the son of a Pentecostal minister, R.
