Quincy Township is a township that is located in Franklin County, Pennsylvania. The population was 5,318 at the time of the 2020 census, a decline from the figure of 5,541 that was tabulated during the 2010 census. History The township was named after John Quincy Adams, sixth President of the United States. Geography The township is located in southeastern Franklin County and is bordered to the east by Adams County. The western half of the township is part of the Great Appalachian Valley, an agricultural area with elevations in the township ranging from , while the eastern half is on the slopes and crests of South Mountain, the highest point of which is the summit of Snowy Mountain, with an elevation exceeding . Scotland is an unincorporated community and census-designated place (CDP) in Greene Township, Franklin County, Pennsylvania, United States. The community was named after Scotland, the ancestral home of an early settler. As of the 2010 census, the population was 1,353. History Mont Alto Iron Company Mont Alto State Park is the oldest state park in Pennsylvania. Its history began with the former Mont Alto Iron Furnace, a blast furnace built in 1807. It was high and wide at the boshes. The furnace produced between of iron a day. The area was a center of iron production for many years. The Mont Alto Railroad was built by the Mont Alto Iron Company to connect the furnaces of the area to the Cumberland Valley Railroad near Chambersburg. Pennsylvania Route 233 (PA 233) is a north–south state highway in south central Pennsylvania. It runs from PA 997 in Mont Alto north to PA 274 in Green Park. PA 233 heads northeast from Mont Alto through forested areas in the South Mountain range, where it runs through Mont Alto and Caledonia state parks and has an intersection with U.S. Route 30 (US 30). After heading northwest out of the mountains, the route continues into the agricultural Cumberland Valley, where it intersects Interstate 81 (I-81) and US 11 and crosses PA 641 in Newville.
