Pennsylvania Route 233 (PA 233) is a north–south state highway in south central Pennsylvania. It runs from PA 997 in Mont Alto north to PA 274 in Green Park. PA 233 heads northeast from Mont Alto through forested areas in the South Mountain range, where it runs through Mont Alto and Caledonia state parks and has an intersection with U.S. Route 30 (US 30). After heading northwest out of the mountains, the route continues into the agricultural Cumberland Valley, where it intersects Interstate 81 (I-81) and US 11 and crosses PA 641 in Newville. PA 233 crosses Blue Mountain into Perry County near Colonel Denning State Park and heads northeast to Landisburg, where it intersects PA 850 and turns north to continue to its terminus. Mont Alto, Pennsylvania
Mont Alto is a Borough (Pennsylvania), borough in Franklin County, Pennsylvania, Franklin County, Pennsylvania, United States. The population was 1,580 at the 2020 United States census, 2020 census. History John Funk built the first house in the borough (then unestablished) in 1817 on what is now Main Street. At this time the town was known as "Funkstown". Eventually the town of Altodale and the surrounding area, called Mont Alto, combined into what is now known as Mont Alto. In 1915 the town of Mont Alto was incorporated with a population of 800. In the beginning of the 20th century, Mont Alto contained one of the largest sanatoriums in the area for treatment of tuberculosis. Caledonia State Park
Caledonia State Park is a Pennsylvania state park in Greene Township, Franklin County and Franklin Township, Adams County in southern Pennsylvania. The park is named for the Caledonia Furnace, an iron furnace that was owned by Thaddeus Stevens beginning in 1837. Today the park is known for its recreational activities and the Totem Pole Playhouse, a summer stock theatre. The southern terminus of the route is at the Mason–Dixon line southwest of Delta, where PA 74 continues into Maryland as Maryland Route 165 (MD 165). Pennsylvania Route 33 (1920s)
Pennsylvania Route 33 (PA 33) is a freeway in eastern Pennsylvania. The highway runs from its interchange with Interstate 78 (I-78) south of Easton in the Lehigh Valley to I-80 and PA 611 west of Stroudsburg. Until 2002, the route's southern terminus was at U.S. Route 22 (US 22), and the extension south of the US 22 interchange is known as the Gen. Anthony Clement McAuliffe Memorial Highway, named in honor of American World War II general Anthony McAuliffe. The route is commonly used as a hazmat bypass for the Pennsylvania Turnpike's Northeast Extension due to the restrictions in place on the Lehigh Tunnel.
