Quiet Dell School, also known as West Virginia Mountain Products, Inc. Cooperative, is a historic school building located at Quiet Dell, near Mount Clare, Harrison County, West Virginia. The original section was built in 1922, with an addition completed in 1953. It is a wood frame, drop sided building with a hipped and gable roof. It was used as a school until 1970, after which it was occupied by Board of Education offices, a local kindergarten, and special needs classes until 1990. Harry Powers
Harry F. Powers (born Harm Drenth; November 17, 1893 – March 18, 1932) was a Dutch-born American serial killer who was hanged in Moundsville, West Virginia. Powers lured his victims through " lonely hearts" advertisements, claiming he was looking for love, but ultimately murdering them for their money. Davis Grubb's 1953 novel '' The Night of the Hunter'' and its 1955 film adaptation were based on these crimes. Jayne Anne Phillips's novel ''Quiet Dell'' (2013) examined the Powers case anew. Early life He was born as Harm Drenth in 1893 in Beerta, the Netherlands. He immigrated to the United States in 1910, first living in Cedar Rapids, Iowa, and then moving to West Virginia in 1926. In 1927, he married Luella Strother, an owner of a farm and grocery store, after responding to her lonely hearts advertisement. The Civilian Conservation Corps (CCC) was a voluntary government work relief program that ran from 1933 to 1942 in the United States for unemployed, unmarried men ages 18–25 and eventually expanded to ages 17–28. The CCC was a major part of President Franklin D.
