Queen Ingrid's Hospital
Queen Ingrid's Hospital ( kl, Dronning Ingridip Napparsimmavissua) is a hospital in Nuuk, Greenland. The hospital not only serves as the main hospital for the municipality but is the central hospital in all of Greenland. The hospital has 185 beds. There is a 12-bed psychiatric ward. Some forensic patients have to be transferred to a special ward in Denmark. History The hospital was established in 1953 and initially was a sanatorium for pulmonary diseases. Architecture The current hospital complex dates from 1980 but is currently being expanded and rejuvenated according to a plan by C. F. Møller Architects. The first phase which consists of a health centre and pharmacy opened on 3 February 2011. It take the form of sunken angular blocks and is clad in copper both on the facades and roof. Nuuk
Nuuk (; da, Nuuk, formerly ) is the capital and largest city of Greenland, a constituent country of the Kingdom of Denmark. Nuuk is the seat of government and the country's largest cultural and economic centre. The major cities from other countries closest to the capital are Iqaluit and St. John's in Canada and Reykjavík in Iceland. Nuuk contains a third of Greenland's population and its tallest building. Nuuk is also the seat of government for the Sermersooq municipality. In January 2021, it had a population of 18,800. The city was founded in 1728 by the Dano-Norwegian missionary Hans Egede when he relocated from the earlier Hope Colony () where he arrived in 1721. Nuup Kangerlua is a long fjord in the Sermersooq municipality in southwestern Greenland. It was formerly known by its colonial name as Godthaab Fjord ( da, Godthåbsfjorden), Gilbert Sound and Baal's River.Nicoll, James. Sermitsiaq (mountain)
Sermitsiaq ( da, Sadelø) ( en, Saddle) is a 1210 meters (3,970 ft) tall Greenlandic mountain in the district of Nuuk in the Kommuneqarfik Sermersooq. Location The mountain is located in the center of its namesake island and 15 km north-east of Nuuk, the capital of Greenland, in the Nuup Kangerlua ( da, Godthåbsfjorden). Its summit is crowned by a sharp west-east ridge, from which three summit points emerge. These resemble a saddle, which gave the mountain and the island its Danish name. While its south side is shaped by steep rock formations, its north side is covered with glaciers. It also harbors a waterfall which is a tourist attraction. Due to its distinctive shape the mountain is Nuuk's most prominent landmark, incorporated into its flag. The Sermitsiaq, one of two national newspapers in Greenland, is named after the mountain.
