Quebec Autoroute 410
Autoroute 410 (or A-410) is a short peri-urban multilane highway in Sherbrooke, Quebec. It is currently a branch from Autoroute 10 (Autoroute des Cantons-de-l'Est) to its terminus east of Lennoxville. The road was named for Jacques O'Bready, the former mayor of Sherbrooke and president of the Commission municipale du Québec, in March 2007. Before then, the road was known as the Autoroute University. History The initial segment was opened from A-10 to Boulevard Bourque ( Route 112) in 1971 as a two-lane freeway. The route was opened to Boulevard de l'Université in 1978, and the entire A-410 became a 4-lane divided highway in 1981. In May 2009, work started on Phase 1 of the A-410 extension to Lennoxville. An interchange was built over Boulevard de l'Université, another over Belvédère Street, south of Mont-Bellevue and the last one at R-108/ R-143 south of Lennoxville. Two-lane Freeway
A two-lane expressway or two-lane freeway is an expressway or freeway with only one lane in each direction, and usually no median barrier. It may be built that way because of constraints, or may be intended for expansion once traffic volumes rise. The term super two is often used by roadgeeks for this type of road, but traffic engineers use that term for a high-quality surface road. Most of these roads are not tolled. A somewhat related concept is a "four-lane undivided freeway". This is much rarer; a current example is U.S. Route 101 in California through Humboldt Redwoods State Park. Quebec Autoroute 610
Autoroute 610 (A-610), also known as Autoroute Louis Bilodeau, is a short spur autoroute serving the eastern and northern suburbs of Sherbrooke, Quebec, Canada. It bypasses Sherbrooke's city centre to the north and connects the A-55 and A-10 to Route 112, a primary regional link to East Angus, Thetford Mines, and Lac-Mégantic. History The first section of Highway 610 was opened to traffic in 1988 as an extension of the A-10. The eastern part (east of Exit 7, formerly Exit 150), opened in 1992, is a two-lane freeway. Original plans for the A-10 called for it to continue east to Thetford Mines, but this section was never built. On 29 September 2006, Transports Québec announced plans to redesignate the section of A-10 east of the A-55 as Autoroute 610. Alexander Galt Regional High School (AGRHS), in Lennoxville, Quebec, Canada, is an English-language secondary school which opened in 1969. It provides education to 1,150 secondary 1-5 students in the southeastern region of the Eastern Townships. (There are similar English-language regional high schools in Richmond and Cowansville.) History of regional schools The regional school concept emerged in the 1960s, in both the English and French language systems. Schooling was previously divided four ways: English or French, Catholic or Protestant. All high schools within a large catch area were closed and students bused to high school daily. High schools in communities like Magog, Sherbrooke, Lennoxville, Stanstead, Scotstown, Sawyerville, Coaticook and Cookshire were converted to elementary schools, where younger children from the baby boom were swelling the capacity. Quebec Route 143
Route 143 is a north/south highway on the south shore of the Saint Lawrence River. Until the mid-1970s when the province decided to renumber all highways other than autoroutes, it was known as Route/Highway 5. Its northern terminus is in Saint-François-du-Lac, at the junction of Route 132, and the southern terminus is in Stanstead, at the border with Vermont where the road continues past the Derby Line–Stanstead Border Crossing as U.S. Route 5 through Derby Line to New Haven, Connecticut. Since Autoroute 55 closely parallels Route 143 for most of its length, much commercial traffic chooses the former. Quebec Route 112
Route 112 is a busy east/west highway on the south shore of the Saint Lawrence River in Quebec, Canada. Its eastern terminus is in Frampton at the junction of Route 275, and the western terminus is in Downtown Montreal (at the corner of Peel Street and Sherbrooke Street), after crossing the Victoria Bridge. The stretch between Vallée-Jonction and Sherbrooke is a very busy highway as it is the main link between the southern regions of Quebec, in particular the Beauce region and the Eastern Townships. Between Sherbrooke and Marieville there is less traffic, since Autoroute 10 is in close proximity to the highway.
