Qian Guoliang
Qian Guoliang (; January 1940 – 15 February 2023) was a Chinese general ('' shangjiang'') of the People's Liberation Army (PLA), an alternate member of the 13th and 14th Central Committee of the Chinese Communist Party, and a member of the 15th and 16th Central Committee of the Chinese Communist Party. Biography Qian was born in Wujiang County (now Wujiang District of Suzhou), Jiangsu in 1940. He enlisted in the People's Liberation Army (PLA) in December 1958 and joined the Chinese Communist Party (CCP) in December 1960. He graduated from the PLA Military Academy and PLA National Defence University. In 1979, he participated in the Sino-Vietnamese War. In 1983, Qian rose to become chief of staff of the 27th Group Army and was then promoted again to the position of commander in July 1985. Qian (; Shanghainese: ), also spelt Chin, Chien, Tsien, or Zee in Wu Chinese, is a common Chinese family name. The name literally means "money". Qian is listed at the second place in the Song Dynasty text ''Hundred Family Surnames'', in the line 趙錢孫李 ( Zhao, Qian, Sun, Li). The People's Liberation Army (PLA) is the principal military force of the People's Republic of China and the armed wing of the Chinese Communist Party (CCP). Lieutenant general (Lt Gen, LTG and similar) is a three-star military rank (NATO code OF-8) used in many countries. The rank traces its origins to the Middle Ages, where the title of lieutenant general was held by the second-in-command on the battlefield, who was normally subordinate to a captain general. Major general (abbreviated MG, maj. gen. and similar) is a military rank used in many countries. It is derived from the older rank of sergeant major general. The disappearance of the "sergeant" in the title explains the apparent confusion of a lieutenant general outranking a major general, whereas a major outranks a lieutenant. 27th Group Army
The 27th Group Army was a military formation of the People's Republic of China's People's Liberation Army and one of three active group armies belonging to the Beijing Military Region between 1949 and 2017. It was based in Shijiazhuang, Hebei. By 2013, the army included the 80th, 82nd, 188th, and 235th Mechanized Infantry Brigades, and the 7th Armored Brigade, plus the 12th Artillery and an AAA brigade.
