Qatar–United Arab Emirates football rivalry, is a perspective association football rivalry between two nations, Qatar and the United Arab Emirates, involving football teams of both nations. The two nations' rivalry has begun since 1972, however, their rivalry had been largely friendly at first and both Qatar and the United Arab Emirates had no issue facing each other. Beginning in 2017, due to the Qatar diplomatic crisis and the downturn of relations, poor political relations have managed to affect football development, causing the rivalry to gain importance. History Qatar and the United Arab Emirates had been largely friendly football rivals when the two first met in 1972, a year after independence from Britain. The two countries first met in the 2nd Arabian Gulf Cup, where Qatar lost to the United Arab Emirates 0–1. Since then, the two nations have met in other 30 occasions. 6th Arabian Gulf Cup
The 6th Arabian Gulf Cup ( ar, دورة كأس الخليج العربي السادسة) was the sixth edition of the Arabian Gulf Cup. The tournament was held at the Zayed Sports City Stadium in Abu Dhabi, United Arab Emirates and took place between 19 March and 4 April 1982. Kuwait won their fifth title after defeating Oman 2–0 on 29 March. Iraq also took part in the competition, but they withdrew after their match against the UAE. 4th Arabian Gulf Cup
The 4th Arabian Gulf Cup ( ar, دورة كأس الخليج العربي الرابعة) was the fourth edition of the Arabian Gulf Cup. The tournament was held in Doha, Qatar and was won by three-time defending champions Kuwait. The tournament took place between 26 March and 15 April 1976. All matches were played at the Khalifa Sports City Stadium. Iraq took part in the competition for the first time.
