Qatar Chess Federation
The Qatar Chess Federation is a non-profit organization that promotes chess in Qatar. History The Qatar Chess Foundation was created in 1985. Khalifa Mohammed Al-Hitmi became its general secretary and president in 1989. In 2006, the Qatar Chess Federation is represented for the first time at the Asian Games. It was then led by Mohammed Al-Modiahki who organized the Qatar Masters Open in December 2015. Chess is a board game for two players, called White and Black, each controlling an army of chess pieces in their color, with the objective to checkmate the opponent's king. Qatar
Qatar (, ; ar, قطر, Qaṭar ; local vernacular pronunciation: ), officially the State of Qatar,) is a country in Western Asia. It occupies the Qatar Peninsula on the northeastern coast of the Arabian Peninsula in the Middle East; it shares its sole land border with Saudi Arabia to the south, with the rest of its territory surrounded by the Persian Gulf. Chess was contested at the 2006 Asian Games in Doha, Qatar from 2 December 2006 to 14 December 2006. Rapid Chess was held for men and women individually as well as a mixed team Standard Chess competition. All events were held at the Al-Dana Indoor Hall. Mohammed Al-Modiahki
Mohammed Ahmed Al-Modiahki ( ar, محمد أحمد المضيحكي; born June 1, 1974) is a chess Grandmaster. He was the first player in Qatar to earn the title of grandmaster, and is the country's highest ranked player. He was awarded the trophy of the ''Player of the Century within the Arab Countries''. Al-Modiahki has participated in nine Chess Olympiads in 1988, 1990, 1992, 1994, 1996, 1998, 2000, 2002 and 2006 with an overall record of (+60,=28,-21). At the 32nd Chess Olympiad in 1996 and he won the gold medal for his individual performance on the first board, scoring 8/10. A performance which he repeated at the 33rd Chess Olympiad in 1998, this time with 7.5/8. In 1994 and 2002, his individual performance earned him the bronze medal. The Qatar Masters Open is an open chess tournament organized by the Qatar Chess Association in Doha, Qatar. Its first edition took place from 25 November to 5 December 2014. Qatar Masters 2014 The tournament was open to every player with Elo 2300 or above. The prize fund equaled over $100,000, with $25,000 for the winner. There were also prizes for the best female and Arabic players, US$5,000 and US$3,500 for the first place in each category, respectively.
