QSC AG was founded in Cologne on 5 August 1999 by Bernd Schlobom and Gerd Eickers as the first German and one of the first European HDSL internet service provider. The company went public on 19 April 2000 in Frankfurt Stock Exchange (at the Neuer Market). Cologne-based QSC AG was a nationwide telecommunications provider in Germany with its own DSL network. High-bit-rate digital subscriber line (HDSL) is a telecommunications protocol standardized in 1994. It was the first digital subscriber line (DSL) technology to use a higher frequency spectrum over copper, twisted pair cables. HDSL was developed to transport DS1 services at 1.544 Mbit/s and 2.048 Mbit/s over telephone local loops without a need for repeaters. The TecDAX stock index tracks the performance of the 30 largest German companies from the technology sector. In terms of order book turnover and market capitalization the companies rank below those included in the DAX. The TecDax was introduced on 24 March 2003. It succeeded the NEMAX50 (''Neuer Markt'' — new market) stock index of German new economy companies that existed from 1997 to 2003 and was discontinued after extreme value loss due to the burst of the dot-com bubble. TecDAX is based on prices generated in Xetra. The index is calculated on every trading day, between 9am and 5.30pm CET .
